Overtime, and LAL will go small with Wesley Johnson in at the 4 (Ed Davis fouled out early in the 4th Q). Lin, Kobe, Young, Hill too.
Nick Young almost makes the shot with 0.5 seconds, but we're now headed to overtime.
That would have been a reeeeaaaallly Swaggy walk off interview if Nick Young hit a 3-point buzzer-beater. Instead, a near miss.
If that shot had gone in Nick Young would have done his postgame presser across the street on the AMAs stage.
Nick Young heaves it at the buzzer. Close. But off the rim. OVERTIME.
Overtime. Nick Young misses what turned out to actually be a pretty good deep look.
Gallinari gets called for a travel on the inbounds pass and it's now Lakers' ball with 0.5. Where is Derek Fisher? Asking for a friend.
Why is Wes inbounding? Isn't he a guy you want going to the rim?
Gallinari moved his feet to throw the inbounds pass, which you can't do in that situation … turnover. Now LAL ball, 00.5 left.
In a weird change of events. Gallinari called for traveling. Lakers ball with 0.5.
Gallinari turnes it over on the inbounds. Seems like there are so many things not to do in that situation...
We'll see if LAL watched the MEM-SAC tape from the other day...
Clock has been changed to 0.5. Enough for Fisher-like miracle to avoid OT.
Oh boy. Five more minutes of this game.
Kobe was short on lots of shots in 4Q, when he's 3 of 11. Byron sent him back in early enough he's on pace for nearly 40 minutes.
Kobe's short on a potential game-winning J, after playing 39 more minutes. He's missed his last 5 shots. 00.5 left for Denver.
Kobe misses the jumper and the Nuggets take a timeout with 0.3 seconds remaining.
Kobe misses the jumper. 0.3 left on the clock. Nuggets call a TO.
Kobe with the shot and the miss. Nuggets will get the ball with 0.5.
Kobe misses a jumper. Denver timeout with .3 left. Guess we're going to overtime.
Kobe iso ... short.
The Lakers have scored one point since Johnson's big three-point play. That was 3 minutes ago.
It's all tied up at 86 with 15.1 seconds remaining in the game. Lakers ball and naturally, Kobe time.
I don't know what the cities of Denver and Los Angeles have done wrong, but if this game goes to OT, clearly it was something. BK
Interesting w/Shaw coaching Denver, knowing Kobe so well. Will he send extra attention early? Try to make sure Kobe doesn't get a look?
Lakers 86, Nuggets 86 with 15.1 seconds left. Lakers ball. Can you guess who's getting the last shot?
KOBE TIME. 15.1 secs left in the game. Tied at 86. Lakers ball.
Gallinari missed the 2nd of 2 FT's with 15.1 left. LAL ball, 86-all. Kobe buzzer-beating attempt coming? Feed the open guy if DEN doubles?
86-86. Lakers' ball vs. Nuggets. 15.1 seconds left...
Kobe's 3 for 10 in the 4th after the last 2 misses after starting 6 for 10 (9 for 20 overall), plus 6 boards, four assists w/23 points.
Hanley is always going to be able to hit. Great fit w/ an AL team used to extending the careers of sluggers.
That was Tony Romo's 27th game-winning drive.
Kobe's mad about not getting a verticality call when Mozgov seemed not to jump straight up, and hit him w/much contact at the rim.
HOW WAS THAT NOT A FOUL?
Jordan Hill missed 1 of 2 FT's, and LAL are 21 for 28 (75%) on the night. DEN within 1 after Afflalo's hoop, 1 min. to go.
Hey judge from The Voice, why you leaving a Lakers game just as your team takes the lead with 3 mins to go. Ya you LEVINE
Wesley Johnson made the 2 key plays to help LAL beat Houston the other day. We'll see if that and-1 hammer dunk is a game changer tonight.
Good to see Robert Sacre's been teaching rookie Jordan Clarkson some of his bench celebrations.
At first, I thought it might be Mozgov taking that hammer dunk from Johnson, but nope, Gallinari. Wouldn't have been Mozgov's first time.
MR. WES IS IN THE BUILDING, AIN'T NO QUESTION WHO ABOUT TO KILL 'EM.
And then he only has a lazy hand slap for Wes Johnson. Ha.
That's not good for USA-Italian relations … Wesley Johnson just dunked ALL over Gallinari.
Robert Sacre hugging anybody and everybody on the Lakers bench after that dunk.
Ty Lawson is one assist away from tying his career high of 17 assists.
To everyone who attended Nuggets-Lakers in person, just remember, there are no refunds. AK
The Big Three (Kobe, Lin and Sacre) have 47 of the Lakers' 78 points.
Finally, somebody makes a shot: it's Kobe, on an offensive board of his own miss. He's up to 21 points, LAL up 80-77. 4:34 left.
LAL can't buy one from 3 right now, now 3 for 20 (15%) after two wide open misses. DEN, though, is only 8 of 33 (24%) from 3.
Hoping Jeremy Lin stays aggressive in the fourth and doesn’t defer to Kobe for the rest of the night. Not looking too promising thus far.
Nick Young struggling tonight. He’s hit only 2-of-10 from the floor in 18 mins.
LAL's starting backcourt is a combined 14 for 22, both Kobe and Lin 7 of 11. Bryant's 3 straight points have LAL up 78-75 w/8:03 left.
Lakers big man depth taking a big hit tonight. Where's Chris Kaman when you need him? Not to play of course. To take a nap.
Romo has about 45 seconds to throw. That offensive line is incredible.
Kenneth Faried has been ineffective tonight. In 19 minutes: 8 points (4 of 9 FG's), 1 rebound, 0 assists, 0 blocks.
Without injured Boozer, Kelly, Randle and now Davis (fouled out), Lakers down to zero PFs. Wesley Johnson now playing there. He's 6-foot-7
Lakers haven't made a field goal since the "M-V-P" chants for Robert Sacre. 75-73, Lakers.
It has not been a Swaggy night on offense. He's now 2 for 10 in his 17 minutes towards 7 points. LAL, however, still up 2 w/9:18 left.
Those 2 PF's on Davis combine with 2 others on LAL in the 1st 2 min., and DEN - a team constantly in the paint - is in the bonus already.
Ed Davis has fouled out in his first start for the Lakers and yeah, this means more minutes for Robert Sacre.
And there's No. 6. Ed Davis, who fouls out after managing just 22 minutes on the floor.
There's the 5th PF on Ed Davis. Couldn't help himself going for a block of Hickson. Still 11:22 to go in the game.
Lakers lead* and thanks to those who corrected me. I'm in a state of shock after the "M-V-P" chants for Robert Sacre. My goodness.
Robert Sacre could surpass his career high for points tonight. Currently has 13. Scored career-best 15 against DEN back in Jan.
"MVP" chants for Robert Sacre...
Thanks in part to some Sacre bench play, LAL take a 75-72 lead out of the 3rd Q. He, Davis and Hill have played well defensively all night.
Lakers with a narrow 75-72 lead over the Nuggets at halftime. Kobe with 16, Lin 15, Sacre (!!!) 13.
Lakers have gotten 13 bench points from Robert Sacre … not Nick Young. He's 4 of 6 on FG's, 5 of 6 on FT's, plus good defense.
Now this is funny: Short-lived M-V-P chant for Robert Sacre, who has 13 points.
Robert Sacre's done a good job defensively tonight, as did Ed Davis w/t starters. Nuggets at 40% FG's, only 24 paint points (LAL have 30).
Nuggets can't stop Robert Sacre, so Wilson Chandler decided to tackle him to the ground. Because, greatness.
Ed Davis is back from the locker room and is fine. He tweaked an ankle earlier in the game, but just had it re-taped. He'll return.
Nuggets clearly didn't read the scouting report on Robert Sacre. They left Sacre wide open for a jumper and naturally, he made it.
Nuggets/Lakers could be a postseason matchup... If the NBA's lottery system involved a playoff.
Checking on why Ed Davis went straight to the locker room after his 4th PF. Trainer Gary Vitti didn't go with him (usually a good sign).
I've always liked Robert Sacre -- putback dunk and now, a turnaround jumper.
Foul trouble was a concern regarding Ed Davis in his 1st start. He's been foul prone off the bench this year, and just picked up No. 4.
Ed Davis with his fourth foul. So here comes Sacre...
It's JJ Hickson in for Denver at C after Mozgov picked up PF No. 4 (McGee out w/t leg strain).
Doc Rivers: "I thought we got great looks, didn’t make them and then we got behind and fell apart a little bit."
DeAndre Jordan: “I just wish every game was called the same way. Players get the same calls, that’s all.”
Make it a 9-0 Lakers run, capped by Jeremy Lin, with 8 points in the period and 7:24 still to play. Lin's got 13, Kobe 15, w/LAL up 5.
Lin missed wide-open three off Kobe setup to end first half. Was chagrined, but has been on fire in 3Q with his attack. ... LAL 56, DEN 51.
I love it when Jeremy Lin is aggressive and attacks the basket -- good things usually happen for the Lakers when he does.
Lin continues to be in attack mode. Scores another bucket. 13 points. Lakers up five, 56-51.
Doc Rivers on success of Griz bigs: "I thought our guards got pulled a ton into the paint and I thought our bigs had to help way too much."
That's now 7 points in the 1st 4+ minutes of the 3rd for Lin, who converted a tough and-1 to cap a 7-0 LAL run. Lakers up 54-51.
Jeremy Lin getting aggressive in the second half. Point total up to 11.
