HoopsHype New Orleans Pelicans twitter
Trying to figure out why television blanks some curses, but does not blank the most offensive ones...
Monty: "I thought we led for 47 minutes. We just couldn't get the stops. And we kept fouling them and kept putting them on the line."
Monty: "We had 8 guys available tonight and everybody just scrapped. I thought our guys got tired." Example: elite shooter Morrow aired trey
Pelicans suffer another disappointing loss, 111-104, to Houston Rockets. Eighth-straight loss...
Pelicans close out 2013-14 road schedule with incredible effort (only 8 guys) but an excruciating final few minutes. Rockets win 111-104
Second review goes to Rockets. In fairness, both looked VERY close.
First crucial replay review went to Rockets on out of bounds. This one again looks like it's off Howard. We'll see if call is overturned
Houston crowd going ballistic after Patrick Beverley corner 3 bounces in. Two straight treys from Beverley and it's NOLA 104-103 at 1:36
Pelicans backcourt of Austin Rivers (20 pts, 10 reb, 6 ast) and Anthony Morrow (20 pts, 5 reb, 3 ast, immeasurable swag) having huge night
The refs with the patented "wait until the ball doesn't go in and then call the foul" respect for James Harden. Withey barely touched him.
We had "Lil Buckets" a couple years ago, can we call him "Luke Buckets"? Babbitt keeps making big shots, has career-best 22 points
GREAT defense on that possession by New Orleans. Solid rotations, leading to a forced Beverley missed 3.
There it was again: James Harden has 8-foot shot but instead of just taking it, tries to bump into Al-Farouq Aminu. Good no-call by refs
If this group of young, inexperienced guys can somehow remain composed & get a victory, that would be VERY impressive.
James Harden is one of NBA's best at drawing fouls, but he's missed several shots while trying to get contact instead of just making a layup
He's played 8 more minutes, but Alexis Ajinca (13 points, 5 rebounds) has played Dwight Howard (12 points, 3 rebounds) evenly thru 3 qtrs
Bad turnover by Southerland, but he recovered, played great D on Harden, and got the rebound. Good stuff.
Officials reviewing something; guessing it was who shoots the FTs. The answer is Terrence Jones.
Beverley just picked up his 4th foul and will likely sit the rest of this quarter.
Luke Babbitt has his Pelicans and season high with 17 points. His career high in scoring is 18, set in 2012 in a Blazers-Suns game
A few Houston fans yelled "Nooooo!" when Luke Babbitt loaded up another open 3 attempt. Rare miss though. Babbitt 13 points on only 7 shots
Tyreke Evans/Greg Stiemsma did not end up playing in 1st half, meaning Pelicans have only used 8 players to get this 59-46 lead on Rockets
Darius Miller spent chunk of half matched up vs. college teammate Terrence Jones. Miller had nice highlight on D by swatting Jones alley oop
It's been a Pelicans three-point barrage in 2nd quarter. New Orleans has made 6 treys (Babbitt 3, Rivers 2, Morrow) and has 39 points
Pelicans starters superb so far, shooting a combined 18-for-32 from field. Alexis Ajinca, Austin Rivers, Luke Babbitt making big plays
Pelicans playing inspired basketball in Houston, take 46-39 lead at 4:17 of 2Q. Alexis Ajinca (12 points) to shoot free throw after timeout
AJINCA IS NOT MESSING AROUND TONIGHT.
Tyreke Evans (knee bone bruise) available to play, but Pelicans have not put him in. Darius Miller now getting more time at point guard
Anthony Morrow not pleased by getting ball taken from him by Patrick Beverley from behind. Excellent open-field tackling technique though
Pelicans led briefly but Rockets take 22-20 lead after 1Q through the most unexpected method, Omer Asik free throws. He's at 61% in '13-14
Southerland and Withey in for Miller and Ajinca. I like giving Ajinca a rest every time Howard is out. Keep him from picking up extra fouls.
Ajinca with the 12 foot jumper in the lane over Asik. Alexis playing well on both ends so far tonight.
Solid defense by Ajinca denies Howard points inside. Rockets having a block party on defense, though. 10-10, 5:36 to go in Q1.
Alexis Ajinca obviously has hands full on tonight with the return from injury of Dwight Howard. Already taken some major contact, even on D
Babbitt with a great dish out to Miller in the corner, but Darius couldn't knock it down. Babbitt proceeds to pick up foul #2 in just 3:15.
Howard with the first of what may be a bunch of easy buckets in the paint, but Morrow comes firing right back with a jumper.
No Brian Roberts tonight. Out with sprain Left ankle
Pelicans starters: PG Rivers, SG Morrow, SF Miller, PF Babbitt, C Ajinca. Reserves: Evans, Southerland, Aminu, Withey, Stiemsma
Starting lineups tonight in Houston. Pelicans have 10 players total available: http://t.co/nbPM65qJ8K
By my math, the Pelicans will have a maximum of 10 players available but as few as 8, depending on Evans' and Stiemsma's status
James Southerland and Darius Miller, both coming off career high in scoring Friday, get in early shooting in Houston: http://t.co/wKBwQO7k9r
Heading home to Sacramento
Pelicans were outscored 28-0 in fastbreak points by the OKC Thunder Friday night.
Monty on two players exiting game with injury after already missing five others: "I've never been a part of anything like this in my career"
Monty Williams on James Southerland debut: "I like the fact that he stepped out there (on the court) and acted like he belonged."
Darius Miller gets his career high in scoring by sinking a late 3. Finishes with 18 points. OKC wins 116-94
Rivers is getting much better splitting defenders. Looks really good tonight
Solid debut for Southerland, though in garbage time. Has hit a few jumpers now and has a few rebounds and a block
