Several coaches have told me they do not believe a running style fits what Cousins does best. This will be interesting.
Take away DeMarcus Cousins, the Kings just aren't good. That's what a 2-7 record shows. They're not much better, it at all than Detroit now
Yes, the Pistons have a bad record, but Drummond, Monroe, Jennings and Meeks would all get run with the Kings.
So there's that.
During this stretch w/o Cousins, Kings have played San Antonio, Memphis, Houston and Toronto, games they might have lost w/ Cousins.
Most coaches describe the Kings as a "physical" team, which suits Cousins and Gay best. How will this fast thing work out?
DeMarcus Cousins (viral meningitis) is out for tomorrow's game vs. OKC, Omri Casspi (left knee bone contusion) is doubtful.
If there was doubt about DeMarcus Cousins availability for Tuesday vs. OKC, especially after increased practice time today, well he's out
“I would be lying if I said I didn’t feel like it was partially my fault.” -DeMarcus Cousins on Malone and missing 9 games with illness.
DeMarcus Cousins (virus) is out for tomorrow’s game against OKC. Omri Casspi (left knee) is doubtful.
Gonna play this new D'Angelo while I crank out these stories ... oh yeah, Peja's in town tomorrow! Vlade too!!!
More Pete "I didn’t really care about what our record was. It’s about who we want to be, what we want our identity to be as a team."
Pete on could a no. of wins have saved Malone's job: "No I think it was more style of play. I wouldn't put any of that on certain set amt"
Chris Webber cannot make it to Peja's jersey retirement tomorrow night due to TV analyst conflict with NBA-TV.
Peja Stojakovic's jersey retirement tomorrow. Former teammates on hand include: Vlade Divac, Doug Christie, Brad Miller, B-Jax, Scot Pollard
Pete said he hopes he has a relationship with Malone for years to come and that he respects him.
Pete on Malone: "I think he’s talented. There’s just a different view of what we want to put in front of the fans."
Pete: "We want to get in that arena and we want to be a compelling product. To get to that point, what philosophy are we going to have?"
Pete D on decision: "What is the next phase, what is going to take us to the next level … is this the coach to take us to that phase?"
Corbin was asked if he had philosophical differences with management: "I don't know. We'll see."
Corbin: "Our goal is to make the playoffs."
DeMarcus Cousins said he found out Michael Malone had been fired on Twitter.
Cousins: I would I be lying if I said I didn’t feel like it was partially my fault. In reality it isn’t, but me personally I feel like it is
Corbin on faster pace w/ Cousins: "At times he’s getting down the floor quickly at times he’s not so how do we function in those times?"
Pete: "I have nothing but great feelings for Michael."
I also don't feel that Chris Mullin wants to take the task of being head coach. I think he loves the role he has. Has enormous influence
Other candidates, to me, are much more open to scrutinize. That said, at least the front office will have THEIR guy.
To me, George Karl is the homerun, no brainer in replacing Michael Malone. Best way to say you upgraded coaching position & justified.
Chris Mullin has been critical of the offense. Not to say he's deserving, however I could see it happening. Not more than George Karl
Chris Mullin as a head coaching candidate for the Kings would make a ton of sense considering the tight knit front office & ownership
As of ten minutes ago, George Karl has not been contacted by Kings re: coaching gig. But, GM D'Alessandro didn't commit to interim Ty Corbin
“This was an extremely difficult decision, but one we feel is in the best interest of the franchise moving forward." -Pete D’Alessandro
The Sacramento Kings officially announced Michael Malone's departure from the team.
Pete said the Kings want to give the fans a style of play reflects the city, referred to Webber days
It was confirmed in the press conference that Chris Jent has left the team as well. Mutual decision according to D'Alessandro.
Kings GM Pete D'Alessandro repeated many times, Ty Corbin is their coach. Wouldn't commit though to if he'd be for the rest of the season
Cousins said today's weather fits the mood for today. It's raining and cloudy.
Pete said Chris Jent not returning was a mutual decision. Jent was Malone's first hire.
Corbin on Malone: "Philosophical differences." Me: "Do you have the same philosophy they have?" Corbin:(laughing) "I don't know, we'll see."
Corbin said team needs to figure out how to integrate Cousins into the faster style.
Pete said Malone will be a great defensive coach and that he did a good job with the Kings.
I asked why not fire Malone in the offseason since Malone's philosophy was known, Pete said now was the right time
"We found out the same way you guys found out. I found out from twitter." -Cousins on Malone
Pete said Kings have "pieces" to be a running team.
According D'Alessandro, phase 1 was to get the team on the right path. Team didn't see Malone as the guy for phase 2. Philosophical issue.
We hit Pete D’Alessandro hard and he said it was his decision to let Malone go. Praised Vivek Ranadive and his willingness to spend.
Pete said he believes all players can run and that it's a mindset.
D'Alessandro was pressed continuously and he kept saying, "he is our coach".
Pete D'Allesandro said the decision to fire Malone was his and not about wins and losses, but philosophical differences.
Petr D'Alessandro refused to say that Tyrone Corbin is coaching the Kings for the rest of the season.
D'Alessandro refuses to take the bait when asked about specific future head coaching candidates
Pete D did not commit to Corbin for the entire season but said he supports Corbin fully
Kings GM Pete D'Alessandro says it was his decision to fire Michael Malone as Kings Head Coach. http://t.co/yzOUOJbZYG
Corbin said he has not been told how long he will have the job.
Corbin said he will try to create more pace on offense.
Chris Kent is gone as assistant coach
Tyrone Corbin said Chris Jent will not be on the staff
DeMarcus Cousins said he practiced today. Faster pace offensively. Said he wasn't consulted before Malone's firing
HAPPENING NOW: Tyrone Corbin speaks to the media for the first time as Interim Head Coach of the Sacramento Kings http://t.co/98GSEhnxmg
Cousins was clear that he found out about Malone firing through twitter.
Cousins said the firing was "unexpected" and "emotional" for the team because so many of them believed in Malone.
Cousins said he's disappointed in Malone's firing, feels like his being out contributed to the firing.
Waiting to talk to Kings GM Pete D'Alessandro and interim coach Ty Corbin. Largest media contingent of the season.
Packed house in Sacramento. Still no official press release from Kings on Malone firing. http://t.co/6OOSMW2KHu
I'd also heard of Mullin as a possible coach. That should be on the website too
Tyrone Corbin is coaching practice with a crutch.
DeMarcus Cousins is out on the floor running during a spirited scrimmage. Looks like he's on the mend.
Anytime anyone proposes playing 4 on 5 at the defensive end and is dumb enough to make it public, it's a sign of awaiting stupidity
No matter the questions regarding Malone's moves, he deserved better. Hard feeling sorry for a cat who has much money coming his way.
The Kings do not have many defensive stalwarts, but still there seemed to be defensive situations the team did not use. IMO
I didn't see the impact defensively I expected from a guy hired based on his reputation. But was that the scheme or the players?
I always had ??? about Malone's moves as is the case with every coach, including Rick Adelman, who is more highly appreciated in absentia.
