Wednesday, May 15 George Maloof hinting to reporters in Dallas that there is possibility of working with Chris Hansen on something in Sacramento.
George Maloof declining to comment on whether there are other "opportunities" with Chris Hansen to reporters in Dallas.
ICYMI, I wrote this yesterday: The value of Sacramento’s incumbency in the fight to keep the Kings shar.es/ZgRZz via @sharethis
I couldn't ask for a better birthday present. Kings stay in Sacramento and @cowbell_kingdom lives on.
Stern: Maloofs were in the room for the great part of the discussion. This was not some overwhelming vote
Stern: This was hard work. This was very difficult b/c board was presented w/very strong Seattle group. There was a lot of to & fro
Stern once again referring to incumbency as a major advantage for Sacramento. Gave edge "once Sacramento got engaged" in January.
Stern: Once Sacramento got engaged in doing this & being able to deliver on promise that advantage to incumbent was going to prevale
Stern: If there is a signed document we would convene by conference call which has vetted Ranadive group
Stern: "It is my expectation that we will be able to make a deal with the Maloofs and the Ranadivé group..." No certainty though.
Stern: It is my expectation that we'll be able to make a deal to transfer ownership to Ranadive group.
Stern: "It is my expectation that we'll be able to make a deal with the Maloofs and Ranadive group to transfer title of the team."
STERN: Maloofs have the right to retain ownership of the franchise. My expectation that we will be able to make deal w/ Maloofs & Ranadive
Stern: Maloofs have right to retain ownership of the franchise b/c all we did was vote on relocation.
Future NBA Commissioner Adam Silver: "We've never wavered on our interest 2 return to Seattle." Says they want to wait-&-see on next TV deal
Adam Silver: We;ve never waivered in our desire to return to the city of Seattle. Expansion was discussed as a possibility down the road
Stern: Maloofs agreement to sell club to Seattle ended with the vote. We think b/c Maloofs have been good to Sac they will be motivated
Stern on whether there's a promise of expansion for Seattle: "Just our promise of fair dealing and ultimate consideration down the road."
STERN: General talk to consider expansion in the future after TV deal is negotiated. #NBAKings #NBASeattle
Stern: The only action taken today was vote on relocation. No documents signed w/backup bid so nothing for BoG to vote on.
Stern on Maloofs' talks w/ Sac: Anticipates they will be open. "And I plan to visit with them and close hopefully on that anticipation."
STERN: If Sacramento community could produce a financially strong ownership group, arena, & fan support - then team should remain in Sac
Stern: If Sac could produce sight & strong ownership group & support by city then appropriate outcome was to keep team in Sacramento
Stern says league will talk to Maloofs to help facilitate deal w/ Sac group in next 24-48 hours.
Stern: We will talk to the Maloofs whether we can help facilitate an agreement signed to the Ranadivé group.
Stern: BoG voted to reject Kings relocation to Seattle. Vote was 22-8. We will talk to Maloofs in next 24-48 hours about sale to Sac
Stern: "NBA Board of Governors voted to reject the relocation of the Sacramento Kings to Seattle."
Source who is an owner confirms relocation to Seattle denied ... In accordance with relocation committee recommendation ... Awaiting Stern
Other outlets reporting both relocation and sale sale resolved. My source says only relocation settled with Kings staying.
