Blame the Lamond Murray trade (of all things) for some of that. With no 2007 pick, Raptors went for it right away and overachieved

Colangelo was never able to accurately read where the Raptors were as a franchise and how to get where they needed to go

Fans are significantly overestimating how damaged Colangelo’s reputation is in NBA circles. He’ll get another GM job.

One thing for sure: Masai Ujiri is going to get paid.

Now all Raps have to hope is that their dollars are worth more to Ujiri than loyalty to the org that gave him his big shot.

On corporate side, Colangelo has built strong MLSE ties with Canada Basketball, made sure Raptors active with charities, etc.

BC staying on in a corporate/advisory role would probably make it easier for Ujiri to take his job and not feel like he’s holding the knife

But now seems they were trying to find a way for him to gracefully stay on somehow.

Now Tim Leiweke's "still working on it" comment to me other day about BC is making more sense. I thought they were working on his exit ...

Logic says Bryan Colangelo set a deadline on Toronto either picking up option or not. Other way around doesn't make sense.

That deal had incentives for the third year based on winning games.
