HoopsHype Toronto Raptors twitter
That’s the trouble with Johnson, great skill-set and potential, but tries to do too much, lacks great feel for the game.
Just so you know I'm not on the take, James Johnson has done some pretty silly things since checking into the second half. Bad silly.
James Johnson was great early on, terrible in this quarter, mistake after mistake after mistake.
DeMar DeRozan has 30 points.
James Johnson gamble = easy James Harden foray to the hoop. Casey won’t like that.
DeRozan has grabbed 7 or more rebounds in 7 of his last 8 games. Has 9 and counting tonight. Career-high is 11. Also has 26 pts in 17 mins
Terrence Ross picks up his fourth foul. I have a joke, but it's too snarky.
Refs don't know what they're doing, so they're calling everything. Might be a good time to drive relentlessly.
We’ve reached “worse than MLS level” officiating now. Just horrid.
For now, JV sits. He just picked up his 4th foul. Won't see him until the 4th (hopefully)
Jonas picks up his fourth, and asks to stay on. Casey doesn't listen. Patterson in. The foul call was pretty crappy, I think.
Thinking ahead here but will be interesting to see what Casey does with JV if/when Rockets go small down the stretch. He's been excellent
This has not been Greivis Vasquez's finest evening.
They will not be writing odes about this Greivis Vasquez performance.
4 blocks for Valanciunas, also matches a season-high.
Jonas has been rad tonight against a banged-up front line.
Valanciunas sweet pass to Ross for three. Drink.
DeRozan has 5 of the Raptors' 12 turnovers. That matches his season-high.
Jonas took (and made) a jumper without pump faking. Feel free to drink.
Wiggins looked like young Vince on that last one.
Rudy Gobert is the best rim protector in the NBA, statistically. Andrew Wiggins has dunked viciously on his head twice tonight. Wow.
Also, if you haven't seen the Wiggins dunk you're not using Twitter right.
Where Raps miss Lowry: W/ Lou playing well Casey may prefer to use him off ball, meaning more PT for Vasquez, who's not having a good night
Quick Change performing to Shake It Off 4eva
DeRozan’s inability to stretch the floor forces Raptors to give Ross dozens of chances even though Johnson is the far better player.
Quick Change the real MVP!
Music cut out for Quick Change! And they're keeping the routine going. What pros!
As noted by a few followers, Ross was a -18 in that first half. James Johnson was +14.
TOR goes into the half down 4 to HOU
Raps trail 52-48 at the half. Seems OK, until you remember Rockets missed 9 free throws that half.
James Johnson is working his tail off defending Harden. He and Ross have pretty much kept him under control. Biggest reason Raps are in this
Rockets playing small(er than usual), forcing Amir to cover Ariza. It is not going awesomely.
DeMar DeRozan (made) fast-break slam cuts Raptors deficit to 3. 3:17 remaining in the half.
James Johnson's defence on Harden is improving things. Raps within 10 after DeRozan doesn't miss uncontested dunk.
DeMar DeRozan threw down a breakaway dunk. Progress.
James Harden getting indignant about being called for a touch foul is pretty funny ...
These refs worked the TFC game on the weekend, right?
A tech for DeRozan. This is going well.
FWIW, heard Raptors had Capela pretty high on draft board (not Bruno or Ennis high but higher than guys like Hood and McDaniels).
Again, Raps having difficulty defending the pick and roll/guarding the rim. Rockets are outscoring them 22-10 in the paint, lead by 7
Josh Smith keeping the Raptors in this game by being Josh Smith.
Lou just posted up Nick Johnson for about seven seconds, and took a turn-around 16-footer. It went in, natch.
I dropped that Kurtis Blow reference other day and now (no long ‘Lil) Bow Wow is here at Raptors game. At least they didn’t play his version
Too early to award Clint Capela Raptor Killer status?
Raptors end the 1st Q on a 17-8 run to tie it up at 27 going into the 2nd. Lou has 8 pts on 3 shots in 5 minutes off the bench. Harden w/ 9
Raps bench does Raps bench things, and we're tied 27-27 through a frame. Lou has 8.
Capela is as raw as they come but athleticism is no joke. Has looked good in pick and roll. Just dunked on Patterson.
Get yourself on ESPN, Clint Capela!
Remember those Baby Ibaka comparisons for Clint Capela? Looked a bit like Ibaka on a posterization.
James Johnson into the game. He'll take the Harden assignment from Ross, who did a decent job in opening 8 mins
One of best passing plays in a while for Raptors. James Johnson didn’t force the issue and found Lou Williams for three.
James Harden just James Hardened Terrence Ross.
One helluva pass from Ross to Valanciunas for the open lay-up. Go ahead and frame this tweet.
Amazingly, Capela (who worked out for Raps before last summer's draft) was 0-for-11 from the field, 0-for-8 from the line before that dunk
Rockets rook Clint Capela recorded his 1st NBA pts (alley-oop dunk) vs Raps. Had missed his first 10 shots in 20 mins coming into the game
Raps on pace for 30 turnovers, give or take.
Joey Dorsey has been denying Jonas positioning in the post. Jonas has taken no shots through 4:40, with zero meaningful touches.
Raptors turned it over 25 times when they lost to Houston in Feb; have 3 in 4:40 so far. Plus shooting 1-of-5. Lucky to be down just 10-4.
Raps had season-high 25 turnovers in last month's meeting w/ HOU. They've committed 3 in 4+ minutes, forcing Casey to burn an early timeout
Just about five minutes into the game and James Harden has yet to shoot a free throw. Must be some kind of record.
Two early swats for JV. The Raptors offence looks less than good.
To prove I’m not always negative - calling a Raptors win over Houston tonight.
Herbie has the night off so the TFC PA guy is here instead. That's gotta be a good omen, right?
The TFC PA announcer is here in place of the absent Herbie.
It's Gonna Be A Great Night, Part 2: Quick Change is here!
Pre-game Yeah Yeah Yeahs. It's gonna be a great night.
ICYMI -- Casey says that Lowry (back) wouldn't play tonight even it was a playoff game "he's not sore, he's hurt."
So, it's not just a precautionary/rest thing for Lowry. It's the injury thats keeping him out. Raptors don't have a timetable for his return
Casey said Lou Williams has done good job at point. They'll need him for a while with Lowry out. Takes away from his scoring though.
Casey said if tonight's was a playoff game, Lowry probably wouldn't be able to play. "He's hurt. It's not just something where he's sore"
Casey said if this were a playoff game, lowry (back) would probably not play. Should let you know how far away he is
No Lowry for Raptors and no timetable for return
There is a scenario in which this is the last time the Raptors play a +.500 team until the beginning of the 2015-16 season.
Still, Raps remaining sched is tougher than most think. 6 of 8 on road in Apr. 6 of 8 vs teams vying for 7/8 seeds in East (MIA/BRK/BOS/CHA)
When the Raptors last played Houston on Feb 21 they had won 5 of 6 vs teams over .500. They've lost 10 straight since.
Tonight's the last time Raptors will face an opponent with a winning record until the playoffs. Haven't defeated a team over .500 in 5 weeks
Lowry is listed as out for tonight's game, by the way. No Dwight Howard (rest), Patrick Beverley, Terrence Jones or Motiejunas for Rockets
Does making purposely low-maintenance media requests make likelihood of them being filled more or less likely? Asking for myself.
Believe it or not: the only NBA player (min 25.0 mpg) who gets less of their points from the line than Ross (5.6%) is Rajon Rondo (4.6%)
JV has the 2nd worst assist rate (2.8) in the NBA (min 25.0 mpg), only Tristan Thompson is lower. Ross (6.1) has lowest rate of any non-big
Another interesting one... Raps starting lineup features 2 players who have the worst assist rate at their position in NBA: Ross (SF) JV (C)
