Colangelo will do conference call with media after lottery if they finish top 3. If not, he won't.
Five decisions that ultimately ended Bryan Colangelo's tenure as Raps GM: sports.nationalpost.com/2013/05/21/fiv…
Big takeout: don't expect NBA's first female GM to be hired in Toronto. Masculine pronoun used a lot.
Without an idea of who the next general manager is going to be, this is gotta be one of the weirdest days in Raptor-land.
Raps have 2.5% chance at moving up to top 3 tonight (and keeping pick), in case you forgot. Now, off to transcribing hell.
If you missed the Bryan Colangelo conference call, you can listen to it hear: sportsnet.ca/590/the-rap/ #TheRap #Raptors #Fan590 #Sportsnet
It's the end of an era in Raptors-land. Suddenly, the whole way that we think about the Raptors is about to change. tsn.ca/nba/story/?id=…
B2B conference calls with Leiweke and Colangelo confirms one thing: This IS Raptorland, everybody makes it out alive! (except Kevin O'Neil)
Colangelo: "I didn't exactly get hit by a truck." No, just feels like it. #Colangelo in classic gentleman mode for media but sounds wary.
Colangelo: If I'm asked my opinion, I'll give my opinion (RE: whether he'll say anything RE: Casey and his staff)
Colangelo:You can’t be a Monday morning quarterback in this business. You have to move forward.
The Raptors had Lillard/Barnes targeted in draft last year. Obviously both were gone by the time Raps picked. Would have changed everything.
(Barnes or Lillard) is a what if, but it clearly would have changed the course (and the following roster moves).
BC says, without saying it, that getting Barnes or Lillard would have changed a lot about what came next (Lowry, Gay, etc.)
Asked if things would be different with better coin toss win/loss luck (ie. Barnes or Lillard) BC says not sure, really like Ross
Colangelo: "I've had people poaching on my job already, directly too me 'he can you put a word in' laughs. "It's a unique situation."
Colangelo acknowledges his hiring of Stefanski last year was in part to please board request that he have a "succession plan in place."
Stefanski absolutely has not been Colangelo's yes man over last two years. But I doubt he'll get job.
Colangelo says Stefanski is a solid basketball mind and he hired him for a reason. A man w/ distinct opinions; hopes he gets a legit look
Colagnelo on Ed: he's a relationship guy...I'd be happy for him to get a legitmate look at the job
Up to board to choose replacement, but BC says they have nice succession plan in place in Stefanski
Colangelo on Bargs – paraphrasing -- There is still value in AB as a player. Change of scenery still best .Up to the new guy now.
Colangelo: "What may have taken time to take get comfortable with, I have now got my arms around and am good with it."
Colagnelo on new GM; I think he will appreciate the fact that I am there and in his corner....If I get in the way then I won't be around
Colangelo (I'm paraphrasing) says if he gets in the way, he'll be out of here. That's been made clear. Up to new GM if he wants help or not
Colagnelo on being there with new GM: I know the candidates...thru relationships...at the end of the day the new guy has to feel comfortable
Colangelo has inferred that his level of involvement will depend on eventual replacement. "If I get in the way I'm not gonna be around."
Colangelo: I can’t “fault” Leiweke or the MLS board in doing their due diligence before making a decision.
Colagnelo on advice to new GM: focus on the team and the attributes that the market has ..I'll do what I can to make the new GM's job easier
Colangelo: "I'm pro-Toronto all the way, and always have been ... there are wonderful attributes that need to be exploited."
BC: I have been exploring that for years but I’ve been focused on making this team better. /2
Koreen is mean, don't be fooled: "@Eric Koreen Colangelo corrects Grange on knowledge of CBA. I laughed"
Colangelo doing his best to sell what he's done with branding Raptors as "Canada's team" but Leiweke's take is almost opposite.
Colagnelo: Im a guy that zigs when everyone else is zagging and I'm not sure that will change when it comes to my opinion
Colangelo: I certainly won’t get in the way with a new general manager with the authority he has been given.
Colangelo does what Colangelo does best: say all the right things. Which doesn’t imply he’s being disingenuous, he just knows the score.
Colangelo: I don't view this as a failure in any sense. Says they've rebuilt since Bosh left & taken significant strides.
Colagnelo: I am committed to Toronto but I have been afforded the opportunity to say yes to a new opportunity..
"Very few NBA jobs would excite me. But there are quite a few out there that would be exciting and thrilling."
Colangelo: "I'm committed to Toronto, but I have an NBA out if the right opportunity comes along."
"Committed to Toronto, but never want to say no to a situation. I've got an NBA out basically."
"I never want to say no to a situation. Tim has afforded me the opportunity to say yes to an opportunity. I've got an NBA out…"
Colangelo: I'm committed to Toronto and what's happening but I never want to say 'no' to an opportunity (RE: if he'd leave for another job)
Colangelo: "There's a process to building teams, but there's a process to building the business around teams ... I have experience there."
Colagnelo: on agreeing to new title: I care a lto about what we are doing here and happy and thrilled to be part of it
Colangelo on 'why' he'd keep this role -- cares about the organization & and the people in it. Seeing it through. Cares about the CITY too
“This is a job, this is an experience that is just another chapter in me being a career basketball man.”
Colangelo: disappointed that I am not able to see it through, Not "ticked off" I will b utilzed in a way that experience will b tapped in to
"Not going to be pushed off somewhere ... My 18 years of experience is going to be tapped into ... acknolwedgement I do care very much."
Colangelo: "I'm not ticked off, more disappointed ... but excited for new role; don't feel like I'm being pushed off in a corner"
"@RobertGibsonIII: Losing My Religion is easily the worst REM song of all time" good poem tho.
