HoopsHype Andrew Wiggins rumors

July 23, 2014 Updates

The Timberwolves have been steadfast in their stance when entertaining trade offers. They know what they want and are unwilling to part with Love right now unless they get what they want in return. Minnesota has made it clear that any trade talks with Cleveland for Love include Wiggins. The Cavs were reluctant to include Wiggins in a deal but realize the only way to get Love is to trade Wiggins to Minnesota. Wiggins has not signed his rookie deal with Cleveland yet, and once he does, he cannot be traded for 30 days. If Wiggins signs soon, the Love-to-Cleveland sage could drag on for at least the next month. USA Today Sports

Cleveland's discussions with Minnesota have escalated with the Cavaliers' willingness to include No. 1 overall pick Andrew Wiggins in the deal, sources said. Without Wiggins, there's no other combination of Cleveland players and picks that would interest Minnesota. Once Wiggins signs his rookie contract, a trade involving him can't be formally completed for 30 days. Yahoo! Sports

Andrew Wiggins will sign his rookie contract with the Cavaliers. It's still not clear if he'll play for them. A person familiar with the negotiations says the Cavs will sign the No. 1 overall pick to his deal, an agreement that would prevent any potential trade involving the small forward from being completed for 30 days. Wiggins has been linked to a possible trade with Minnesota for All-Star forward Kevin Love. The person familiar with the talks says Wiggins will sign with Cleveland as early as Wednesday. The person spoke to The Associated Press on Tuesday on condition of anonymity because the team is not commenting on its plans. Associated Press

Last week, two people familiar with the discussions said the Cavs were still not willing to include Wiggins in a deal. It's not yet known if the Cavs have softened their stance on Wiggins, who played well during the team's summer league in Las Vegas. Associated Press

In an interview with John Feinstein on CBS Sports radio, Duke and Team USA coach Mike Krzyzewski broke down what he would do in the Cleveland Cavaliers' position of trying to decide whether to trade Andrew Wiggins for Kevin Love. The verdict? He'd trade for Love. Click here to listen to the audio. "There's absolutely not one second of hesitancy. I'd trade for Kevin Love," Coach K said. "That's not saying anything bad about any of the other youngsters. Love's an All-Star and he's a double-double guy. But he's a double-double guy who can spread the court. There aren't many double-double guys who can spread the floor; he can go inside and outside. There may be a low post player that gets you a double double, but Love, you can do a lot of different things with him." CBSSports.com

The Cavaliers insist rookie swingman Andrew Wiggins has not been offered in a possible trade for Minnesota Timberwolves power forward Kevin Love. No one involved would guarantee it wouldn’t happen at a later date, but for now the Cavaliers will proceed in Love negotiations without using the mercurial Wiggins as a trade chip, a source told The News-Herald. Another source told The News-Herald last week the Cavaliers would be willing to deal the No. 1 pick in the 2014 draft in a trade for Love — and that might still happen. ESPN the Magazine’s Chris Broussard and USA Today’s Jeff Zillgitt also reported the same thing. Morning Journal

According to a study by Roland Beech at 82Games.com, there's a 70 percent chance Wiggins becomes a "star," averaging 32.9 minutes, 16.6 points, 7.8 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game for his career. (It's also noted in the study, but career averages are obviously lower than those from any given player's prime.) SportsonEarth

Steve Nash: "Andrew (Wiggins) has shown a lot of interest and right now he not only has a lot of attention on him after a phenomenally trying last year, but his team is also really concerned about him and what he does and what he doesn't. But Andrew has shown interest and the Cavs have shown interest (in him playing for Canada). There's a chance he could be here this summer. I know he wants to be here but right now he has to fulfill his obligations to his (NBA) team." HoopsAddict.com

The Cleveland Cavaliers are planning to sign No. 1 overall draft pick Andrew Wiggins to a contract in the coming week, according to sources close to the process. Sources told ESPN.com that the Cavaliers' delay in signing the former Kansas star has nothing to do with the prospect of Wiggins being dealt to the Minnesota Timberwolves as part of Cleveland's ongoing trade discussions for Kevin Love. The Cavs and Timberwolves have been discussing a Love trade since the return of LeBron James, with sources saying that Minnesota is insistent on getting Wiggins back in any deal that sends Love to Cleveland. Once Wiggins signs, though, league rules stipulate that the Cavs must wait 30 days before trading him. ESPN.com
