Suns guard Archie Goodwin was arrested outside an Arkansas skating rink earlier this month and charged with disorderly conduct and refusal to submit to arrest. Goodwin, 19, was leaving the Arkansas Skatium, an ice and roller rink in his hometown of Little Rock, on May 4 when the incident occurred at approximately 11 p.m., according to Arkansas State Police public information officer Bill Sadler. A state trooper witnessed Goodwin cursing and "exhibiting aggressive gestures" toward another person while exiting the building and the trooper reported telling Goodwin twice to stop cursing twice, Sadler said. Goodwin was taken into custody but the trooper said Goodwin tried to break away from the trooper's hold during the arrest, according to Sadler. Goodwin then was booked into a Sherwood, Ark., jail. Goodwin has a June 3 district court date regarding the charges. Arizona Republic

Since Leandro Barbosa’s return to Phoenix, the rotation role that Goodwin held for most of the season has vanished and the Suns are going to give the 19-year-old rookie some needed game experience with a D-League assignment. Goodwin will join the Bakersfield Jam for Friday night and Saturday night games and then rejoin the Suns on Sunday in Cleveland for the first game of a four-city trip. He only misses one Suns game — at home Friday vs. Washington. Arizona Republic

Who do you try to model your game after? Archie Goodwin: I really don't try to model my game after anyone. I prefer to be my own player so I just work on the things I feel make me successful. If I happen to pattern someone, it's not by choice. Maybe we have a similar body type or something but it's not like I'm trying my hardest to be someone. I'm not trying to be Michael Jordan. I'm not trying to be Kobe. I'm trying to be Archie Goodwin. Bright Side of the Sun

They were impressed with Goodwin’s athleticism, sure, but not particularly wowed by his shooting. He shot 26.6 percent from the 3-point line and, though he got to the free-throw line 6.4 times per game, made only 63.7 percent of his attempts. “I know what people were saying, but I thought that going into the draft was the best thing to do for me and my family,” Goodwin said. “I think it is a matter of, I need to work on my game and get better at my game, so I might as well do that in the NBA where I can focus on that all the time.” Sporting News
