While Shumpert's injury did not deter the Thunder, it did kill the Knicks' hopes of sending him to Los Angeles. Clippers coach Doc Rivers really wanted Shumpert, sources say, and Rivers was willing to do a deal that would have sent Darren Collison, Matt Barnes, Byron Mullens and two second-round picks to New York for Shumpert, Felton and Beno Udrih. But Clippers owner Donald Sterling and others within the organization were hesitant to bet on Shumpert after seeing him go down in Wednesday's game at New Orleans, according to sources. ESPN.com

The Knicks will have two open spots when Metta World Peace and Beno Udrih’s buyouts become official Monday. Diogu is in the D-League with Bakersfield, averaging 16.2 points and 8.2 rebounds. He showed rebounding ability and a mid-range jumper for the Knicks during the preseason. New York Post

Carmelo Anthony was caught off guard, especially since World Peace had played more than seven minutes in Friday’s double-overtime loss in Orlando. “It’s sad to see them go, but this is the business of basketball ... it happened, and we’ve got to move on,” he said. “The buyouts kind of surprised me because [Friday] Metta seemed like he was in a good place. He was happy, he played . . . he was a different Metta.” Amar’e Stoudemire said, “I’m going to miss those guys. They want to play, they want to compete, they want to contend.” ESPN.com

“I really don’t know if that’s going to change anything or not,’’ Udrih said. “It’s disappointing,’’ added Udrih, who turned down the Spurs last summer. “I thought [I was] going to have a different role. That’s the direction they’re going. I’ve kept working hard to stay in shape. That’s all I can control right now.” New York Post
