“We’re going to be patient, but it’s to find someone who can take this group collectively and get the most out of them,” King said. “I thought P.J. [Carlesimo] did this year, and got us to where we are, but I thought we could go further. “I thought we could be a better basketball team, but we need to create a culture that becomes the identity of the Brooklyn Nets. ... Something where I think it has to be a vision of the Brooklyn borough, where it’s got to be tough-minded and when you come to play us you know it’s going to be a dogfight every night. That’s what I’m looking for — and a coach to instill that in the team.” New York Post |

![]() "I think we're going to have a lot of people who are going to want to play here. That's the great thing now about being in Brooklyn. Players are going to want to be part of it. Players have gotten to see the building, come through it. So, it's more of a recruiting tool for us," King told Couch. Indeed, a number of players have commented about the Nets new digs. NetsDaily On development, King reiterated the Nets intention to sign Bojan Bogdanovic, saying he is the kind of player the Nets will need to bring in, with their tight salary cap. "Bojan is someone who's had big games. He can shoot the three, has good size, is very physical so the goal is to get him over here this year," King said. "He has an NBA buyout so the object is to exercise it and give him the money and get him to come over. I think he wants to come over." He added nothing can happen until free agency begins in July. NetsDaily Net Daily: Also, in interview King talks about how Teletovic and Shengelia became acclimated to NBA "culture" this season. Still has high hopes. Twitter @NetsDaily |

![]() Meanwhile, Stephen A. Smith told SNY Nets that he expects Billy King to make his next calls about Doc Rivers and Brian Shaw, both of whom are still under contract. NetsDaily Smith, speaking with Darrel Johnson of SNY, listed Rivers' name first when asked about the Nets priorities. "Expect the Boston Celtics to receive a call for permission to talk to Doc Rivers… Expect Brian Shaw of the Indiana Pacers to get a call," and he also mentioned Larry Brown. He then returned to the man who will lead the search. "Billy King will scan the globe. I’ve known him for over 20 years. He’s not going sit idly by." NetsDaily |

Nets general manager Billy King was reluctant to rule out any names in his coaching search following the decision to part ways with interim coach P.J. Carlesimo on Sunday. Three days later, that list is starting to be pared down. Phil Jackson, the former Los Angeles Lakers and Chicago Bulls coach, isn't interested in the position. The Nets have eliminated potential candidates Stan and Jeff Van Gundy as well. Wall Street Journal |

![]() The Nets, according to the league source, believe strongly that the next coach must possess offensive creativity they believed Carlesimo--and his predecessor, Johnson--lacked. The Nets often bogged down into isolation sets for guard Joe Johnson, or threw the ball into center Brook Lopez without incorporating the other players on the court. King believes the triangle offense would be ideal for the team's personnel, according to the source. NBA.com |

![]() Long before the Nets contacted Phil Jackson on Monday, GM Billy King GM spoke with Brooklyn product Mike Dunleavy about taking over for P.J. Carlesimo. A source familiar with the situation told the Daily News that Dunleavy has emerged as a real darkhorse in a race with higher-profile names, which isn’t a surprise considering his relationship with King. “He may be the leading candidate in Billy King’s mind,” said the source. New York Daily News And although a source confirmed Jackson met with the Nets on Monday and is reportedly Mikhail Prokhorov's top choice, the 11-time champion has stated he’s not interested in coaching and wants a front-office job. King could be opposed to that because it could diminish his role. New York Daily News In a good give-and-take with Ryan Ruocco and Stephen A. Smith Monday, Billy King said that contrary to media reports, the next coach of the Brooklyn Nets does not have to be a big name, that ownership isn't requiring that and some of the best coaches in the league weren't marquee names when they started. "I’ve worked with big names. It’s not about a marquee name," he assured Smith. "We want a guy who can do the job the best ... going forward for the long term. Tom Thibodeau was an assistant … our players will be fine with whoever is coach." Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov made overtures to Jackson for the team's head coaching position after Avery Johnson was fired this past season, and league sources expect the Russian billionaire to come calling again. The presence of an established general manager -- Billy King just signed a contract extension with Brooklyn -- would not necessarily be a prohibiting factor for Jackson to enter the fray. Jackson would serve largely as the visionary, with a day-to-day GM and front-office staff in place to execute it. CBSSports.com |

![]() Billy King: “Jason Collins was a vital member of the New Jersey Nets for six and a half years, and as an executive with a competing NBA team, I always respected the standard he set for team play and the example he set for the league in playing with integrity and purpose. He exemplifies everything we look for in players, and for those players and associates within our organization, our primary focus is creating the most accepting and respectful environment for everyone to succeed.” NBA.com |
