Having these authority figures around has changed the tone. Their presence is especially important for the Warriors because of so many youngsters on the roster. Of the four rookies, at least two (forward Harrison Barnes and center Festus Ezeli) will be part of the regular rotation. One starting guard, Klay Thompson, is in his second year. The other, Stephen Curry has logged just over two seasons worth of games due to ankle injuries. "It's a lot different having a lot of older guys in the locker room now," second-year point guard Charles Jenkins said. "Bogut is a lot more serious than any player. He's a no-nonsense kind of guy. He jokes and all that. But once he gets on the court, all that stops. Same with (Jefferson)." San Jose Mercury-News

The Warriors do a ton of community service in the Bay Area, but little has been closer to a player’s heart than this weekend’s “Keep Abreast” walk. Guard Charles Jenkins participated in Saturday’s walk at Quarry Lakes East Bay Regional Park in Fremont with his mother, Patricia, who is a breast cancer survivor. Jenkins offered an emotional address to the participants before the walk, calling his mother his “best friend.” “This is very important to me, because my mom is a breast cancer survivor,” Jenkins said. “I was a part of all of it. I was there on those nights when she wasn’t feeling well. I was the first person to come home when she had surgery and when she needed me.” San Francisco Chronicle

Wednesday is going to be a nice little day for Warriors point guard Charles Jenkins. See, Wednesday is Aug. 1, and that’s the day Jenkins’ contract – worth $762,195 – will become fully guaranteed for the 2012-13 season. Warriors general manager Bob Myers said Jenkins almost certainly will not be waived today and that the second-year point guard is part of the team’s future. CSNBayArea.com

For that reason, don’t be surprised if the Warriors use Nos. 30, 35 and 52 to get a higher pick to follow up on No. 7. According to a couple sources, the Warriors would be happy to head into the offseason with three quality players to fill out their roster and start to build up their assets in the young talent department. That may not be good news for Charles Jenkins, Jeremy Tyler and Chris Wright. Contra Costa Times

But is he ready to be the undisputed No. 2? If Curry happens to go down, can Jenkins be the starting point guard on a team looking to reach the playoffs? According to one team source, he's earned a chance to be that guy. "I'll be able to answer those questions in training camp," the rookie said. "You're going to see a drastic change in Charles Jenkins. I've played a year in the NBA. I've got a chance to learn. I know what to expect every night, how to play and how to win." Charles Jenkins wore No. 22 for Hofstra University on Long Island, and he has every intention of trying on a professional basketball jersey bearing that number in the next few days, whenever he is introduced as the newest, wide-eyed member of some NBA team somewhere. Twenty-two is how old Jenkins is, and it was his big brother's tender age when he was gunned down in a senseless act of violence in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn 11 years ago. The first time he sets foot on an NBA court, Jenkins said he will bend to one knee, point to the sky and say, "Thank you." Thank you to God, and thank you to Kareem Albritton, who did not live to see his little brother pass through these gates of the highest level in basketball. "I'm pretty sure he'll be bragging to everyone about it," said Jenkins, a point guard projected to be taken in the late first or early second round. CBSSports.com

Kemoni Albritton was barely a year old when the father she never knew was lost forever. The child's mother and Jenkins' parents have raised her, and now Jenkins wants to do his part. Whatever the new business model of pro basketball allows rookies to be paid, it will be enough to make his niece's life a little easier. Jenkins' brother was there for him -- the only fan in the stands at his first youth basketball game in Queens, and the coach of the team when he won his first game. Now, 11 years later, Jenkins wants to be there for him. "I was around when she was born at the hospital," Jenkins said. "I spent a lot of time around my brother and my niece and saw how much she changed him and how much he cared about her. Now I have an opportunity to make something good happen. I know that's something that he would want." CBSSports.com
