It's been a bizarre season for the Los Angeles Lakers, with coaching changes and a seemingly never-ending array of injuries causing a rocky start for the team. With that said, it almost came as no surprise in this anything-would-be-believable season that Lakers point guard Chris Duhon and backup big man Robert Sacre aren't just teammates; they're related. "His momma and my dad are second cousins," Sacre said before the Lakers played the New Orleans Hornets earlier this week. ESPN.com

"You have Kobe, you have Metta, you have Pau (Gasol) and you have Dwight Howard, obviously, protecting the paint," said Lakers backup guard Chris Duhon, who played under D'Antoni in New York. "These guys have pride. They're not going to give up 157 points. It's definitely different than when I was in New York. We basically just said, 'Hey, let's just outscore 'em tonight.' I don't think defense is going to be a problem here." That remains to be seen, of course. But with the Lakers offense unleashed in the week since D'Antoni was hired, their point totals creeping toward 120 as the floor spacing improves and the dunks, ally-opps and wide-open jump shots increase, it's obvious the Lakers will be much more entertaining than they ever would have under Brown or Jackson. Plenty of dominoes still have to fall before Fisher, who finished last season with Oklahoma City, actually winds up back at Staples Center in purple and gold. Fisher, for starters, will have to decide how long he’s willing to wait for the Lakers to open up a slot in their backcourt rotation for him. They currently have too many point guards and too high a payroll to sign him now, which account for two of the reasons that L.A. -- as ESPN.com reported Friday -- is shopping Steve Blake and Chris Duhon. The Lakers immediately held an introductory news conference for Howard. Duhon didn't have one. The Magic fans feel betrayed by Howard's mixed messages the last year on his playing future. Hardly anyone said anything about Duhon. The Lakers believe Howard's the final piece they need to win a championship and their next franchise player. Duhon's just hoping he can share some minutes with Steve Blake at backup point guard. Yet, Duhon's probably the most qualified Laker to provide perspective on what led to Howard's acrimonious departure from Orlando. "It was tough for him and it was wearing on him," Duhon said Friday in a phone interview with The Times. "The thing about Dwight, he's a great guy. He wants to please everybody. He wants everybody to be happy. He doesn't anybody to think negative of him. It was a tough situation. At some time, you have to think about yourself and what you want to do. He had a tough time handling that, but at the end of the day, it wore on him." Los Angeles Times

You mentioned you watch film of other players as well – who are the guys you are watching? There are obviously a ton of great point guards in this league right now and certainly there are lessons to be learned from all of them, but are there a handful you focus on the most? Jeremy Lin: I’ve watched everybody and some of the names might be shocking, but the thing is every point guard does something better than me, so the key is learning from whatever that is. Players that I’ve watched – the obvious ones: Chris Paul, Deron Williams, Steve Nash, John Stockton, Gary Payton. And then you can go on to the ones who have very specialized skills: Juan Carlos Navarro and then Chris Duhon and Raymond Felton. They do things that are really, really good and better than me that other people might not see. NBA.com

The Dwight Howard deal is still on schedule, source says, with trade call expected this afternoon. More details on the picks: lottery-protected from the Sixers in 2015, the lower of Denver's two first-rounders in 2014, the Lakers' 2017 first-rounder, and two second-rounders.
