The Trail Blazers have assigned rookie guard CJ McCollum to their NBA Development League affiliate, the team announced Wednesday. McCollum, who fractured his left foot during an October practice, is expected to join the Idaho Stampede today and could play in games Friday and Saturday against the Rio Grande Vipers in Boise. "I was really excited when I was cleared to practice and get back out there with the team, go through sets with them, guard guys and get away from drills and the rehab phase of recovering from the injury," McCollum said. "I'm definitely looking forward to actually playing in a game, but I'm taking advantage of every practice every day. "... McCollum, who is recovering from a fracture to the fifth metatarsal bone in his left foot, said he’s optimistic he will gain clearance to ditch the walking boot “in a couple days.” Then, if all goes well next week during a medical checkup, he should be able to advance his rehabilitation work and inch one step closer to returning to the court. “The foot’s feeling pretty good,” McCollum said. “I’m just continuing to progress. It’ll be a good sign if I have a clean X-ray.” Oregonian

Trail Blazers rookie guard CJ McCollum will have an ultrasound procedure to repair the break in his left foot, the team announced Tuesday. The procedure, which according to the Blazers is "non-operative," will be done Wednesday in Charlotte, N.C., by Dr. Robert Anderson of the OrthoCarolina Foot and Ankle Institute. The procedure is "designed to stimulate bone growth," the Blazers said in a news release. The team gave no timeline for recovery. Oregonian
