Colton Iverson’s status remains uncertain. The 2013 draftee would like to stay in the states after a year overseas, but the Celtics aren’t sure there’s a job for him here. As is the case with the handful of non-guaranteed people, Iverson’s return for camp will be based on the moves the Celts make in the next several weeks. Boston Herald

It won’t be easy, especially as the Celtics head into a summer of uncertainty, with the potential that the roster could look drastically different in a few months. “All that uncertainty makes it not a certainty, but we like Colton, and we’re anxious to see him this summer,” said Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge. Iverson would love to have a guaranteed contract, of course, but he understands the situation. “It’s part of the business,” he said by phone before heading to Boston. “They’ve already invested a lot in me. All of last year, they’ve been in touch. Boston Globe

While at the Celtics' practice facility, Williams was struck by the Rondo's offseason work ethic. "Honestly, I was peeking while we were doing a couple drills. I was peeking and watching that man work out," he said of the Boston guard, who briefly spoke to Williams and offered some words of advice and encouragement. "I've got to say, he's a freak of nature. A lot of people give me that name, but I'm going to give it to him because he was in there putting in hard work. "To be coming off an injury a couple of months ago and doing things like that, it's tough. But he's still in here working. I think I got here around 10:30 a.m. and he's still here now. That goes to show how hard he works and how much he loves being in the gym." Booth Newspapers

“I know they’re interested. I’m willing to go there for the next month and try to make my own spot, make them not be able to leave me off the roster next year. But that’s part of the business — you have to prove yourself. I could easily go to Vegas and try to impress other teams, but they’ve already invested a lot in me, so I figure it’s in my best interest to go right out to Boston right now.” Boston Globe

Now, he’s back in the States, back in Boston for a month of workouts starting this week. He’s preparing to join the Celtics’ summer league team in Orlando, hoping that there will be a place for him when the season starts in the fall. Boston Globe

Iverson, the 53d overall pick, said he knew that going in, and that he believed the Celtics believed in him enough that it was OK for him to go overseas for the time being. So, Iverson is in Turkey, living in Istanbul, playing out a one-year contract while the Celtics own his rights. “I look at it as a win-win situation for both of us because I get to play a lot of minutes this year and keep getting better,” Iverson said. “If I continue getting better and have a successful season, I think the probability of me being in Boston hopefully is pretty good, but you never know what the future will hold so I’ll just keep getting better every day.” Boston Globe

“We’re excited about Colton,” said Austin Ainge, the team’s director of player personnel. “We think he can be an NBA roster player. We all need big guys on the bench that can guard Dwight Howard and Nikola Pekovic and Andrew Bynum, the big, big strong dudes.’’ Boston Globe

The blockbuster trade that is now in place between the Celtics and Nets could translate into significant opportunity for younger players. With that in mind, the Celtics hurriedly assembled their team for the Orlando Summer League, which begins on July 7. In addition to last year's rookie center, Fab Melo, 2013 first round pick Kelly Olynyk, and second rounder Colton Iverson, a seven-footer from Colorado State, the Celtics have signed Missouri point guard Phil Pressey to a free agent contract. The team will only have a short time with Iverson, who reportedly plans to play in Europe next year, though the Celtics hold his rights. Boston Herald
