Would the Cavs go for broke with free agents like Utah center Al Jefferson or Minnesota center Nikola Pekovic? The 6-10, 289-pound Jefferson made $15 million this season. Pekovic, a 6-11, 290-pounder, had a breakthrough year in 2012-13 with 16.3 points and 8.8 rebounds. He made $4.6 million this season, and could vault up to the $8 million-$10 million range. The Cavs probably won't take on that kind of commitment from either player, even though they desperately need scoring from the post. They might pursue free-agent role players like Matt Barnes or Corey Brewer to round out the roster. News-Herald |

![]() Brewer, who has averaged 11.8 points per game in the best season of his career, is an unrestricted free agent at season's end. "You never know, but I like it here," he said of his future. "Hopefully they want to keep me." Denver Post The last time he was a free agent, he signed with the Dallas Mavericks, won a ring and then was dealt to Denver. But he almost signed with the Spurs. "It came down to San Antonio, Dallas or Boston — those were my three choices. I almost came (to San Antonio), I'm not going to lie," he said. "One more day and I would have come here. Dallas gave me a three-year deal." Denver Post |

![]() That play is pretty much exactly why the league added the flopping warning this season. The Nuggets’ Corey Brewer is running down court side-by-side with the Clippers’ Eric Bledsoe last Thursday (a Nuggets win), then there is minor contact and Brewer sells it like they were a sniper in the third row. And it worked, he got the call. Now he’s gotten a flopping warning from the league. Next time he gets a $5,000 fine. NBCSports.com |

Chris Tomasson: Swingman Guard Corey Brewer would like to re-sign with the Nuggets when he becomes a free agent this summer. “Yeah, I’d like to be here,’’ Brewer told FOX Sports Florida. “I like the fans, I like the city, I like the system, I like George Karl’s system, I like my teammates. So it’s a good situation for me.’’ Sulia |

![]() Brewer will be an unrestricted free agent next summer and figures to be one of the more coveted wings due to his strong ability to defend the perimeter. However, Brewer’s first choice is to sign a multi-year deal with the Nuggets and remain with the franchise long-term. “You know I’d love to be here,” Brewer said to HOOPSWORLD. “But you never know what’s going to happen, because it’s the NBA. I just take it day by day and hopefully this will be home.” HoopsWorld Brewer is playing the best basketball of his pro career, averaging 11 points and three rebounds per game this season. The forward quickly credits Karl with his on-court development and helping him to carve out his role in the league. “I love playing under Coach Karl,” Brewer admitted. “He has helped me expand my game. He just lets me play. This was the first opportunity I had to actually run up and down the court and play basketball like I did in college.” HoopsWorld |

![]() Two weeks ago, Corey Brewer was just settling into his new life. The five-year veteran had worked on his jumpshot, and had recently announced he was engaged to be married to Carolyn Friedrich. Then, before Brewer could say “I do,’ the Dallas Mavericks surprisingly traded him to the Denver Nuggets. The trade, which occurred on Dec. 13 and also included Rudy Fernandez going to the Nuggets for a second-round draft pick, was nit what Brewer was expecting. “Yeah, it caught me off-guard,’’ Brewer said. “I wasn’t expecting to go nowhere, but it happens. “Things happen. It’s a business. It’s the NBA.’’ Fort Worth Star-Telegram "I wasn't expecting to go anywhere, but things happen in this business," Brewer said. "It's a good situation to be able to have a chance to play. Over there [in the Mavs' locker room], I might have played. I might not have played. Here, it's a good situation to have a chance to get minutes." Brewer, by the way, said he didn't get fitted for his championship ring before he left but wasn't too worried. "I got two already," he said of his NCAA championship rings at Florida. "So I can send them the size if they need it." Dallas Morning News Fernandez, meanwhile, was traded with Brewer and said he never had anything against Dallas. He never made it to the Mavericks when training camp started because of travel document problems. Fernandez said he sensed a change might be coming when the Mavericks signed Vince Carter. "It meant less minutes for me," he said. "Right now, I understand all the moving in Dallas. Denver is very interested in me and they recognize the opportunity we have." Dallas Morning News |
