![]() One possibility to back up Wallace at small forward is Damion James, whom the Nets drafted in 2010 and who spent much of last season sidelined following surgery to repair a stress fracture of the fifth metatarsal in his right foot. The injury was a recurrence of one James initially suffered during his rookie season. New York Post A source said the Nets have spoken to James since free agency began about the possibility of bringing back the 6-foot-7, 225-pound forward, after declining the option on his contract during the year and making him a free agent. The tentacles of the proposed deal stretched across more than 10 players and three teams on Monday, with the Nets recruiting a fourth team to take on guard MarShon Brooks in exchange for an additional draft pick to send to Orlando. Nevertheless, multiple complexities need to be resolved to complete the deal, including the negotiation of contracts for four of the players in the proposed trade: Brook Lopez, Kris Humphries, Damion James and Shelden Williams. In the proposed deal, Howard, Jason Richardson and Earl Clark would be sent to Brooklyn, and the Magic would receive the Nets' Lopez, James, Williams and Armon Johnson, Cleveland's Luke Walton and three future first-round picks, sources said. Cleveland would receive Orlando's Quentin Richardson, Brooklyn's Sundiata Gaines, Humphries (on a one-year guaranteed deal), a first-round pick and $3 million from the Nets. Brooklyn also is in talks with the Los Angeles Clippers to exchange Brooks for an additional first-round pick to send to the Magic. If the Clippers decline to participate, other teams are in position to take on Brooks, sources said. Yahoo! Sports Adrian Wojnarowski: In current structure of deal, Orlando gets Brook Lopez, Damion James, Shelden Williams, Luke Walton and 3 or 4 1st rounders, sources tell Y! The Nets also decided to not renew the contract of Damion James, who had season-ending surgery Tuesday to replace a screw in his right foot. "I just wanted to have the flexibility … with the injury that he's had over the last couple of years," Nets general manager Billy King said. James will become an unrestricted free agent after this season. James started the first seven games of the season, but aggravated his injured right foot in a Jan. 4 loss at Boston. James missed most of last season after having surgery to repair a broken bone in his right foot, which included the insertion of a screw. Bergen Record James' injury and the ability to have cap space to pursue free agents or trades played a major role in King's decision. "As I told him, it's not an indication we're not going to bring you back," King said. "But it just allows me the flexibility — I couldn't in good conscience [guarantee bringing him back] at this point." Bergen Record |

The Nets also have a decision to make today on (Damion) James and his third-year option. Early indications were they would not pick up his option — that could change — and James then would be an unrestricted free agent. New York Post It got worse yesterday when the Nets announced forward Damion James is lost for the remainder of the season. James underwent surgery on his right foot at Indiana University Health Hospital in Indianapolis to repair aggravation to a previous fracture in his fifth metatarsal. Dr. David Porter performed the procedure, which included replacing a screw originally inserted after James broke his foot in December last season. New York Post |

When the Nets went to post-lockout training camp, there were three positions of which they felt fairly certain: point guard with Deron Williams, center with Brook Lopez and small forward with second year man Damion James. Well, at least they have Williams. Lopez broke his foot before the season and now Damion James, who played in just seven games this season after an injury-riddled rookie campaign, is out until next month after undergoing foot surgery today in Indianapolis to correct an aggravation to a previous fracture of his right fifth metatarsal. The Nets announced that the surgery, performed by Dr. David Porter at Indiana University Health Hospital, involved replacing the original screw which was inserted in December, 2010, after he first was injured.
