HoopsHype Darren Collison rumors

January 16, 2015 Updates

The Nets have been in discussions about trading either Lopez or Deron Williams this season, including talks with the Kings that would have centered around Williams going to Sacramento in exchange for Darren Collison, Jason Thompson and Derrick Williams. Those talks were held up, however, by the Kings being interested in Mason Plumlee and the Nets in rookie Nik Stauskas, both non-starters for the other team. New York Post

A hiccup in the trade is Sacramento coveting Mason Plumlee, who is not part of the deal as currently proposed. Plumlee would upgrade the Kings at the power forward spot forming an imposing frontcourt along with DeMarcus Cousins and Rudy Gay. All three were teammates on Team USA that captured the FIBA World Cup in Spain this offseason. CSNBayArea.com

While the Kings players aren’t specifically acknowledging Gay’s new extension, we were able to get a bit on the subject from point guard Darren Collison: “I’m extremely excited. This is a good step in the right direction. You think about how far this organization has come and to have players of Rudy’s caliber and his talent, DeMarcus (Cousins) is stepping up and becoming a household name (and) myself included, wanting to sign here, it just speaks a lot about this organization and what they’re trying to do. And it speaks about our future.” Cowbell Kingdom

During the free agency period, did you talk to DeMarcus [Cousins] and Rudy [Gay] much? Isaiah Thomas: I didn't. I didn't actually talk to nobody. Just went silent? Isaiah Thomas: They didn't reach out to me. They only reached out when I signed my deal so I mean I had a feeling, I kind of knew I wasn't coming back. Other than coming back for Mike Malone, I didn't think nobody really wanted me, like they wanted Darren Collison. Not like that, but I mean, they picked Darren Collison the second day of free agency. He's a good player; I hope the best for him and the Sacramento Kings, honestly. Sactown Royalty
