But the offense has dropped noticeably. The Grizzlies' offensive rating has fallen from 105.2 the first 41 games of the season, when Allen started, to 100 the last 25 games. And their scoring has fallen from 101.8 per game during the former stretch to 94.5 per game in the latter. Joerger said, cryptically, on Thursday: "Jeff Green is the least of our problems. Most people on the inside know what it is. And it's not Jeff Green." NBA.com

We should probably take a moment to talk about why that high seed might not even matter in the West where Oklahoma City (probably) and San Antonio (definitely) are lurking in the lower half of the bracket. "I really like our team. A lot," Joerger says. "I don’t know that seeding matters this year. When San Antonio is healthy and Oklahoma City is healthy, they’re the two best teams in the NBA. What Golden State has done is fantastic. It’s awesome. Oklahoma City and San Antonio are six and eight, seven and eight depending on the day. Certainly the higher seed has an opportunity to play a Game 7 at home, but it’s going to be wide open, I think." SB Nation

“One of the underrated pickups of the year I think will end up being their deal where they brought in Corey Brewer and Alexey Shved,” Dave Joerger said. “That’s right in their wheelhouse. Corey is a guy from right down the road (Portland, Tenn.) that I love a lot. I think he is going to help them, unfortunately. Alexey Shved is a good playmaker and a perfect fit for that system. I think that is a move that didn’t draw the attention a Josh Smith will and Rajon Rondo and guys like that. Everybody’s trying to load up.” Houston Chronicle

But the Griz become more potent if Pondexter, Carter and Leuer are making shots. If not, how long will it take for Joerger to consider giving minutes to rookie guard Jordan Adams? “We’ve been putting them out there and believe that they’re going to get the job done,” Joerger said of the second unit. “We’ve been really positive with some of those guys. We’re showing them everything that they do well. We try to promote that we’re behind you.” When asked if he had a set number of games in mind that could trigger a decision to re-evaluate the bench rotation and make changes, Joerger said: “I don’t know what the alternatives are.” Memphis Commercial Appeal

Bzdelik, who made a name for himself as a strong defensive coach with the Miami Heat under Pat Riley, makes his NBA return with a Grizzlies team that speaks the same language as those Riley-led Heat squads once did. "The timing was right," said Bzdelik, who joined Griz coach Dave Joerger's staff as an assistant coach last month. And Joerger appreciates the timing of Bzdelik's sudden availability. In search of another coach with NBA head coaching experience and someone to help sustain the Grizzlies' elite defense, Joerger tabbed Bzdelik. "That's where his focus will be," Joerger said, referring to his desire to tap into Bzdelik's highly regarded defensive mind. "I value his head coaching experience but everybody brings a different strength. … What he brings is great experience having worked with Riley in Miami. He's a detail guy. He's very organized. He's going to fit with the level of toughness that we have and want to keep having here." Memphis Commercial Appeal

"He's a great basketball mind," Griz general manager Chris Wallace said. Bzdelik made the case that being away from the NBA for so long shouldn't be viewed negatively because of the extent of his resume. "Players are so young now in the league that I've got a sense of how to connect with them by being in college and I have an understanding of that generation," Bzdelik said. "I've been around a lot of veteran (NBA) players, too. My first year in the NBA with Washington we had Moses Malone and Bernard King. I can draw from both experiences as far as veteran players and younger players. I really missed the NBA. I love the NBA. I always stayed connected with it. It's great to be back in it.
