Hammond officially announced the hiring of David Morway as the team's assistant general manager, replacing Jeff Weltman, who left earlier this summer for a front-office job in Toronto. Morway was general manager of the Indiana Pacers from 2009-'12 and also has a baseball background, serving as assistant general manger of the San Diego Padres in the 1980s. "He was with them (the Pacers) for 14 years," Hammond said. "I've always looked at the Pacers and admired what they've done. I think David is going to be a great addition to our organization." Most front office people bring in their own personnel. But it was pretty obvious that general manager Kevin Pritchard would be elevated in the front office. How much did you know about him before this? Donnie Walsh: "I had dinner with Kevin when I first came back. I really didn't know him when I came in. Larry had already recommended him to Herb, (former general manager) David Morway was already gone, so when I walked in here, I knew he was going to be here. I've really enjoyed working with him. He's exactly the kind of guy I want to work with. I still make some calls, but he's really good at working the phones. I think sharing ideas -- he's been a general manager before -- is great. The way I see myself doing the job now, he's a perfect fit for me. I've got confidence in him. He's somebody I really enjoy talking about basketball with him." Indianapolis Star

The Indiana Pacers have announced that David Morway has resigned as general manager. “For the past year I have carefully and thoughtfully considered my personal, family and professional goals,” Morway said in a statement released by the team. “After discussing all of these issues with our owner Herb Simon and (president) Larry (Bird), I believe this is the right time to step away. “I want to thank Mr. Simon, Larry, (former team president) Donnie Walsh and (president) Jim Morris for the opportunity they gave me and the friendship and mentorship they provided.” Indianapolis Star

Seemingly, it’s done, though that could be deceiving. Kevin Pritchard, meanwhile, is making trade calls for the Pacers. Apparently, Bird has unofficially installed him as general manager, succeeding universally mistrusted David Morway? New York Post
