There was widespread chatter among Bucks officials and even some NBA executives that Kohl was livid with Hammond and, if he had maintained ownership of the team, would have fired him after the season. But Hammond, the NBA’s Executive of the Year in 2009-2010, is still overseeing the basketball operations and Drew is heavily involved in draft preparations. Thursday, during an informal gathering with a group of media, Lasry and Edens expressed their support for Hammond, Drew and Morway. “I think, on the basketball side right now, John, David and Larry, at least from all the dealings we’ve had, they have been doing a great job,” Lasry said. Later, when I spoke to Lasry and Edens one-on-one, I asked them if Hammond and Morway would definitively be part of the organization next season. Lasry said, “I have a ton of respect for John and David. I think they know their stuff. I would tell you I don’t think that we (he and Edens) know our stuff (about basketball dealings). They are very good and have a phenomenal track record, so that’s no issue for us.” So they will then be a part of the Bucks next season? “I think so,” Lasry said. “Absolutely.” Racine Journal-Times

The futures of Hammond and Morway are uncertain after the recent sale of the team to finance executives Wesley Edens and Marc Lasry, and the new owners have at least held initial discussions about possible replacements, per sources around the league. But the growing consensus is that the current front office will have another year to make this lottery pick and hope the nucleus it’s put in place begins to perform. Grantland

Milwaukee Bucks general manager John Hammond received some support from the team's new ownership group after the lottery drawing Tuesday night. Wesley Edens and Marc Lasry sat in the front row with family members during the lottery telecast, while Hammond and assistant general manager David Morway were a few rows away. Edens said Hammond would continue as the team's general manager for the near future but avoided making a firm commitment in the long term. Hammond has two years remaining on his contract, as does coach Larry Drew, who suffered through a 15-67 finish in his first year with Milwaukee. "This is like Day 3 since we've been the owners of it," Edens said. "We're very focused on the draft and working with these guys closely. "We're very happy to have those guys working with us." Hammond officially announced the hiring of David Morway as the team's assistant general manager, replacing Jeff Weltman, who left earlier this summer for a front-office job in Toronto. Morway was general manager of the Indiana Pacers from 2009-'12 and also has a baseball background, serving as assistant general manger of the San Diego Padres in the 1980s. "He was with them (the Pacers) for 14 years," Hammond said. "I've always looked at the Pacers and admired what they've done. I think David is going to be a great addition to our organization." Now that the Suns’ GM job came open this week, the more likely GM candidates are names that are largely to the general fan – Milwaukee assistant GM Jeff Weltman and former Indiana GM David Morway, for examples. But Barkley is interested, but not desperate for the job. Barkley has not been contacted by the Suns he did talk Wednesday on Brad Cesmat’s “Pros 2 Preps” show (KGME-AM) and addressed the topic in his usual candid way. Arizona Republic

Most front office people bring in their own personnel. But it was pretty obvious that general manager Kevin Pritchard would be elevated in the front office. How much did you know about him before this? Donnie Walsh: "I had dinner with Kevin when I first came back. I really didn't know him when I came in. Larry had already recommended him to Herb, (former general manager) David Morway was already gone, so when I walked in here, I knew he was going to be here. I've really enjoyed working with him. He's exactly the kind of guy I want to work with. I still make some calls, but he's really good at working the phones. I think sharing ideas -- he's been a general manager before -- is great. The way I see myself doing the job now, he's a perfect fit for me. I've got confidence in him. He's somebody I really enjoy talking about basketball with him." Indianapolis Star
