Cheek announced Thursday that he has made himself eligible for the NBA Draft. There is no turning back. He has hired an agent, Happy Walters, the same man who represents former Wildcat Corey Stokes. Even if he had not hired an agent, Cheek’s college career would be over. The deadline for underclassmen to withdraw their name from consideration was Tuesday. Cheek did not come to his decision easily. He mulled it over for nearly two weeks before he decided to give up his senior year to pursue his dream of playing professionally. “It was a tough decision,” Cheek said. “That’s why I took my time with it. I wanted to make sure.” Delaware County Daily Times

Coming off a tough season in which it missed the NCAA tournament for the first time in eight years, having its top two scorers leave was the last thing Villanova needed. Maalik Wayns made his NBA intentions known last month, and now it seems Dominic Cheek will follow to the draft. “I appreciate all the help I have gotten from my teammates, coaches and friends during my time at Villanova,” Cheek said in a release. “At this point in my life, I feel this is the best decision for me and my family. I am excited to get started with the process of pursuing my dream of playing in the NBA.” CBSSports.com

While he doesn't have to decide until April 29, sources close to the situation think Cheek is leaning in that direction and could even make his intentions known by the end of this week. Neither Cheek nor coach Jay Wright could be reached for comment. Whether Cheek would even project as a second-round pick at this point is debatable. But sources speculate that his family's financial situation could play a part in the decision.
