Faverani, who entered training camp expecting to compete for the starting center spot, last played for the Celtics in February. With 16 guaranteed contracts and 15 roster spots, the Celtics will likely have to decide between Faverani and recent addition Dwight Powell. “We didn’t even really talk about that,” coach Brad Stevens said of Faverani’s roster future. “It sounds like it’s something where he had extra scar tissue and you got in and cleaned up. It doesn’t sound like a long-term thing, so we haven’t talked about it. That hasn’t come up in any of my discussions, at least.” Faverani signed a three-year contract (two years guaranteed) in July 2013 and had surgery to repair a torn left meniscus this past March. He complained of persistent knee soreness during training camp and has yet to participate in practice. Boston Globe

Meanwhile, the coaching staff and players have been impressed with Powell, acquired last month from the Cleveland Cavaliers. The rookie from Stanford signed a two-year contract with Cleveland before being traded. The first year is guaranteed. Boston Globe
