Double knee surgeries as a rookie. Shoulder surgery one year later. Now this. In three NBA seasons, Williams has spent more time in rehabilitation than in practice. But despite his depressing reality, Williams’ desire to remain in the league has never wavered. In recent seasons, the Blazers have watched Greg Oden’s body deteriorate, Brandon Roy’s knees sabotage an All-Star career and countless players go down with season-ending ailments. Williams has encountered yet another stumbling block, but he refuses to be the next Blazers player to walk away bruised and battered. “I’m still young and I still have a lot of basketball left,” Williams said. “It’s been tough. It’s hard not to tell you it’s been tough. Especially when you’re a competitor and you want to be out there. But the thing about this is it teaches you a lot. It teaches you patience and makes you grateful for certain things, for what you do have.” Oregonian
The Blazers made official what Williams told The Oregonian Tuesday night -- he will have surgery on his left shoulder and miss the remainder of the season. The rookie guard, who dislocated his shoulder March 8 in Boston during a workout after practice, will undergo a procedure to repair his shoulder capsule on March 30 in Los Angeles. The surgery will be performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache at the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopedic Clinic. Williams said rehabilitation should take three-to- four months, but he hopes to be able to resume shooting two months after the procedure. Oregonian
