The Clippers completed their second pre-draft workout Wednesday morning at the team’s Playa Vista Training Center. A week after taking a look at potential wing players, Vice President of Basketball Operations Gary Sacks, Director of Player Personnel Gerald Madkins and several other members of the Clippers’ front office and scouting department observed six point guards in preparation for the 2013 NBA Draft where they own the No. 25 overall selection. The group included Pierre Jackson, a senior from Baylor, South Dakota State’s Nate Wolters, Texas sophomore Myck Kabongo and seniors Isaiah Canaan (Murray State), Mark Lyons (Arizona) and Erick Green (Virginia Tech), who led the nation in scoring last season. As the Clippers continued their search for a new coach, former Cleveland Cavaliers coach Byron Scott was the latest candidate to interview for the job Tuesday, according to several NBA executives who were not authorized to speak publicly on the matter. Scott met with Clippers President Andy Roeser, vice president of basketball operations Gary Sacks and director of basketball operations Eric Miller at the team’s practice facility. “The interview went very well,” according to one executive. Brian Shaw, the associate head coach of the Indiana Pacers, met with the Clippers' front office at the team's facility and left an impression on team President Andy Roeser, vice president of basketball operations Gary Sacks and director of basketball administration Eric Miller during his face-to-face interview with them, said two NBA executives who were not authorized to speak publicly on the situation. "I think it went great," one of the executives said about the meeting. Shaw then was scheduled to have dinner with Clippers owner Donald Sterling on Monday night. In response to reports that Chris Paul was unhappy with being linked to the firing of former coach Vinny Del Negro, Los Angeles Clippers management on Friday publicly claimed responsibility for the decision. "The decision not to extend a contract to Vinny Del Negro was an organizational decision from the top down," Clippers vice president of basketball operations Gary Sacks said. "Our front office evaluated the season and Vinny's three years here before making this move, and our conclusion and feeling was that we needed a change." ESPN.com

Del Negro is just the second coach to leave the team with a winning record, following Larry Brown in 1993. Though the coaching situation could be resolved this week, Paul's status will drag through the summer. Teams, including the Clippers, are not allowed to speak with free agents until July 1. "The No. 1 priority for us right now has to be signing our star player, Chris Paul," Sacks said. "That's our goal. We want to put ourselves in a position to do that. We feel like this organization is in a position to move forward with that goal in mind. "I feel very confident. He is an integral part of this and we feel like we've had a great partnership for the last couple years and we want to continue it, obviously." Los Angeles Daily News

Sacks said there is no timetable for making a decision on Del Negro's future with the Clippers, who won 56 games this season before bowing out in six games in the playoff series against Memphis. "We'll sit down and talk with Vinny and I will go over some things for the future and discuss it with our owner (Donald Sterling) and see where we're at," Sacks said. The Los Angeles Clippers today announced that Gerald Madkins has been hired as the team’s Director of Basketball Operations. Directly reporting to newly appointed Vice President of Basketball Operations Gary Sacks, Madkins will work closely with Sacks on all facets of the team’s basketball operations. Madkins joins the Clippers after serving as the Vice President of Player Personnel for the New Orleans Hornets for the past two seasons. In his role with the Hornets, Madkins was responsible for overseeing the scouting staff, salary cap and database management, pro, college, international, and developmental league talent evaluation, as well as assisting the general manager with all front office duties. While in New Orleans, the Hornets drafted Anthony Davis with the first overall pick in the 2012 NBA draft. NBA.com

In their quest to continue to change the team's culture, the Clippers have hired highly-thought-of Gerald Madkins to be the team’s director of basketball operations, said NBA executives Friday who were not authorized to speak publicly on the matter.
