If the Orlando Magic needed any additional proof that power forwards Glen Davis and Al Harrington progressing in their return from injuries, Davis and Harrington provided that evidence Sunday afternoon. Davis and Harrington joined the Magic in Washington and participated in portions of practice at Verizon Center. It was the first time this season all 15 players on the roster have attended a practice on the road. It’s unclear whether Davis will play Monday night against the Washington Wizards, and Harrington is at least a couple of weeks away from playing in a game. Orlando Sentinel |

Orlando Magic power forward Glen ``Big Baby’’ Davis said on Thursday that he had no animosity aimed at Emeka Okafor even though the Washington center delivered the blow that dislocated his shoulder and knocked him out of action. However, Magic coach Jacque Vaughn chose to bite his tongue when he was asked whether or not he thought Okafor’s chop across the arms that caused Davis’ shoulder to grotesquely pop out of place was a flagrant or dirty foul. ``I don’t think my opinion matters at all,’’ Vaughn said cryptically before breaking into laughter. ![]() Davis got the relief of a lifetime on Thursday when he found out that the shoulder he injured late in the game against Washington would not need season-ending surgery. Instead, he was diagnosed with a sprain that could keep him out four to six weeks. At least that’s the diagnosis of the doctors. ``I have my own timetable and it’s when Glen feels good enough to play,’’ said Davis, whose Magic (12-15) next host the New Orleans Hornets (5-22) on Wednesday. ``I might have Superman powers and come back next week, or two weeks, three weeks, four weeks or a month. It just depends on how I feel and that’s all that matters. The doctors diagnosed it and it is what it is. I’m just glad it’s not worse.’’ NBA.com Davis said he hasn’t had any problems sleeping or resting on his sore shoulder. He even shed his sling when he attended Sunday’s game because he said the shoulder is already feeling better. He said that his macho side has him already disregarding the sling he’s been instructed to wear. ``I want to wear (a sling), but I’m such a (stubborn person) sometimes. They’re telling me to wear it and I’m like, `No, I’m fine,’’’ Davis joked. ``I don’t want to wear one because in my mind I feel like I’m fine. That’s just how competitive I am. … I just have to calm down, do my rehab and wear my sling.’’ NBA.com |

Josh Robbins: Spoke with Glen Davis at halftime. He wouldn't specify his timetable. Magic docs want him wearing a sling, but he isn't. David Locke: The Orlando Magic just released that Glen Davis will be out for 4 to 6 weeks - Jazz play Magic on Sunday Twitter @Lockedonsports ![]() The Orlando Magic did not celebrate their victory Wednesday night over the Washington Wizards. Not after they saw Glen Davis writhe in pain and scream in agony as he lay on Amway Center's floor clutching his left shoulder. Davis injured the shoulder with 47.8 seconds remaining in the 90-83 win, making the end result feel almost like a loss. Team officials would not speculate on the severity of the injury, but at least some of them fear Davis dislocated the shoulder. The extent of the damage will not become known until Davis receives an MRI exam Thursday morning, but there is a possibility Davis will miss an extended period of time. "I'm not going to quite write that obituary just yet," coach Jacque Vaughn said at his postgame news conference. "I'll see him after this, and I'll see him in the morning, and I'll be smiling and I'll hug him and I'll see how he is. I'll keep thinking that he'll be ready to go when we play two days from now, until doctors tell me otherwise." Orlando Sentinel Many of Davis' teammates saw him in the training room after the final buzzer. "He appeared as a player who is worried," J.J. Redick said. "I hope it's not anything serious. It's just unfortunate, and it definitely does take away from the good feeling of winning." Orlando Sentinel |

![]() "Big Baby" appears to be growing up. Glen Davis did something Monday night that his basketball coaches and teammates have wanted him to do for years. Instead of allowing his own frustration to spin him out of control, he channeled his negative emotions in a positive direction. After a first half in which he was outplayed by All-Star Kevin Love and he committed a technical foul, Davis played almost flawlessly and helped lead the Orlando Magic to a comeback win over the Minnesota Timberwolves. Orlando Sentinel "I can't be up-and-down," Davis said Tuesday. "I have to be one way the whole time because people are watching me. It's easy to not do as much when nobody's really paying attention to you. But when everybody's paying attention to everything you do and everything you say, and you want to be a part of the team and you're in that position, you do whatever it takes." Everyone is paying attention to Davis these days because coach Jacque Vaughn named him a co-captain before the regular season. It seemed like a risky move given Davis' emotional nature, but Vaughn's decision has compelled Davis to be accountable for his actions. "He's been more steady, and that's a great sign for him," Vaughn said. "For the most part, his demeanor, his approach has been consistent. That's the way a captain should be." Orlando Sentinel |

SLAM: Who’s the funniest guy in the locker room? NV: Umm, I think probably Hedo Turkoglu. He always jokes around and makes fun of people a little bit. He’s funny. Jameer Nelson, he’s funny. Glen Davis. We have a pretty good team chemistry, where we always joke around and do stuff together. It’s a pretty good job, to play for this team. SLAM |

Glen Davis predicted Juan Manuel Marquez would beat Manny Pacquiao before the boxers fought each other Saturday night. Sure enough, Marquez knocked out Pacquiao in the sixth round. The victory was sweet for Marquez, who had gone 0-2-1 against Pacquiao in their previous matches. Some Magic players watched the fight together at the team hotel. "I had a hint Marquez was going to win because the fights have been just too close and he had so much to fight for," Davis said. "Pacquiao's a great fighter, and he's won some really good battles with him. But I just felt like it was Marquez's turn." Orlando Sentinel |

Davis also believes the time was right for a change in coaching styles. “Similar coaches with similar ways, but they’re different also. I learned from both of them,” he said. “It was good to have Doc at the beginning of my career because it totally humbles you. It knocks everything out. Now (with) me understanding the way of the game, it’s better to be with a coach like Jacque, because now I understand what it takes. But at the same time he motivates you and makes you feel better. It’s not like he babies you, but he makes sure you’re OK as a player, and that’s good. “At the beginning of my career I thought Doc was good for me. And now with Doc building the foundation, a guy like Jacque is a good way to finish it off.” Boston Herald Asked if he believes he is now being treated as a grown-up, Davis nodded. “Yeah, I think that’s what it is a little bit,” said Davis. “I was a rookie, and made rookie mistakes. You need a guy like Doc to set you straight. But knowing what I know now and what Doc taught me, Jacque doesn’t have to say, ‘Hey man, do this,’ and, ‘Hey man, do that.’ “I’ve been around a guy who’s military-minded and that’s rubbed off, so (Vaughn) doesn’t have to be as hard as Doc used to be when I was growing up.” Boston Herald |

![]() He’s moved on from under the pressure of Doc Rivers’ strong hand to the more liberal touch of Magic coach Jacque Vaughn. Listen to Davis’ description of the change, and you can’t help but believe that he’s gone from boot camp to an ashram. “Different guys,” he said after today’s pre-game shootaround. “Doc is more of a military-minded kind of guy, and Jacque is more of a Gandhi kind of guy. Soft but powerful. “Doc’s more get the job done, and Jacque Vaughn is more the kind of guy who will ask you, Would you feel comfortable getting the job done?” said Davis. “I think that’s different with players. But in my system, I think I just feel better functioning in Jacque’s system. Doc wasn’t the kind of guy to pat you on your back and say, good job, man. He’s more like, OK, move on. In a way that’s positive, but some players are different. Jacque’s a different kind of guy. He pats you on your back – good job. That’s his motivation. But at the same time he still holds you accountable if you’re doing things wrong.” Boston Herald |

Substitute Glen Davis, yes "Big Baby," for Michael Oher, the Baltimore Ravens tackle, and you get closer to the essence of the Garrett Temple story. Temple, you see, forged an early bond with Davis, a promising athlete, who, like Oher, had lost his way and his youth amid the mean streets, in this case, not of Oher's Memphis, but rather of Baton Rouge. Enter the Temple family, in this case Collis Temple, Garrett's father and the first-ever black basketball player at LSU, in 1971-72. In Davis, Collis Temple saw hope. So he took him in.
