Dieng, who was named the NBA's Western Conference Rookie of the Month for March, is now hoping that Senegal's national team coach feels the same. "I'm really excited about that. I spoke to the coach (Cheikh Sarr) today," Dieng said in Charlotte. "He's here in the States looking at the college kids and stuff." One of these players may have been Adama "Louis" Adams, a South Carolina State senior point guard from Senegal's AfroBasket team last summer. FIBA.com

Dieng, who was prepping for his first NBA season, was not on that side but he definitely wants to wear the green of Senegal at the FIBA Basketball World Cup this summer in Spain. "I'm very excited to go back and play for my national team, to play for my country." [...]It's clear that representing Senegal is his next priority. "I'm looking forward to going back and fight for my country. Whatever it takes. If they need me to score, I can score. If they need me to protect the rim, I can do. It's not me to decide what I want to do. It's how the coach wants to use me. I will do whatever the coach wants (me to do). FIBA.com

Taylor said it's unlikely that Saunders will bring in a 15th guaranteed contract. In other words, forwards Robbie Hummel and Othyus Jeffers, rookie guard Lorenzo Brown and an expected to-be-determined big man will compete for the final spot in camp. Those three players, first round picks Muhammad and center Gorgui Dieng, and big man Chris Johnson arrive into town Monday for developmental work. Other players are expected to be in-and-out for informal workouts before training camp starts. 1500 ESPN

The headline name among the six players who are scheduled to attend is Louisville center Gorgui Dieng, who anchored the Cardinals’ defense on their way to the national championship. The other players expected to participate are Ohio State forward Deshaun Thomas and four local products: Miami guard Durand Scott, who starred at Rice High School; USC guard Jio Fontan, who began his collegiate career at Fordham after playing high school ball with Nets guard Tyshawn Taylor at St. Anthony High School in Jersey City; St. Bonaventure forward Demetrius Conger and Division III Farmingdale State center A.J.
