As expected, Edy Tavares will play another season in Spain’s ACB League. The 2014 second-round draft pick spoke at a press conference for Herbalife Gran Canaria Tuesday. The team reports to Las Vegas on July 27 under Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski and is scheduled to play a showcase game Aug. 1 at the Thomas and Mack Center. From there, the players venture to Chicago for more training, Aug. 14-16, with a game at the United Center against Brazil at 8 p.m. Aug. 16. Drummond and crew then head to New York where they are scheduled to play games at Madison Square Garden against the Dominican Republic on Aug. 20 and Puerto Rico on Aug. 22. Walter Tavares, one of the best 7-foot prospects in the world, is working on a contract buyout with his team in the Spanish ACB League and will travel soon to the United States to work out for several NBA teams, league sources told Yahoo Sports. Several NBA executives believe Tavares, who is 7-foot-3, has a strong chance to work himself into the first round of this month's NBA draft, and several teams choosing in the range of the 20s plan to bring him in for closer inspections, sources said. Nine NBA teams were in Badalona, Spain, scouting point guard Guillem Vives (Joventut Badalona) and center Walter Tavares (Gran Canaria). The Spurs sent general manager Rodney Buford and two scouts, Dave Telep and international scouting director Claudio Crippa. Clippers general manager Gary Sacks was there too. Gran Canaria’s GM Himar Ojeda went on Twitter yesterday to deny reports that Rasual Butler’s contract with the Spanish team had an NBA out and reiterated that today in a conversation with HoopsHype “There’s no out clause,” Ojeda said. “In fact, there’s no mention whatsoever of the NBA in the contract. There’s no gray area for interpretation. It’s just a typical European contract.” HoopsHype
