The Toronto Raptors have agreed to send small forward Rudy Gay to the Sacramento Kings in a seven-player deal, a person with knowledge of the trade confirmed to USA TODAY Sports. While the Kings are expected to receive Gay, center Aaron Gray, and small forward Quincy Acy, the Raptors made a major move to clear up their salary cap situation by landing small forward John Salmons, point guard Greivis Vasquez, power forward Patrick Patterson and power forward Chuck Hayes. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the deal had not yet been finalized. USA Today Sports

The Raptors and Gay had become increasingly unhappy with each other, league sources said, and Gay's contract was an obstacle to the franchise's desire to begin the rebuilding process. Gay is making $17.8 million this year, and holds a player option for $19.3 million for the 2014-15 season. The forward will almost assuredly exercise the option and take that salary next season. Thomas is the Kings’ second-leading scorer at 17.6 points while shooting 45 percent. Thomas is averaging 4.5 assists, second on the the team in 27.5 minutes. “I’ve thought about that at times during the season. If you looked at just from the preseason alone, no disrespect to anybody, but Isaiah had played the best of anybody at the point guard position. But what I felt was best for the team at that time was to continue to bring him off the bench, allow Greivis to start and let (Thomas) to be that spark plug off the bench. And he’s shown that he can do that and do that at a high level,” Malone said. Sacramento Bee

Interestingly, it was two veterans, Greivis Vasquez and John Salmons, who addressed their teammates late Tuesday night in a meeting that probably should have lasted into the wee hours. The list of troublesome issues is expansive and includes inconsistency at both forward positions, erratic levels of defensive intensity and physicality, poor ball movement, poor decisions, stagnant halfcourt offense and generally far too many flashbacks to the Kings of recent seasons. "He has to understand people are going to come at him," Vasquez said. "You've got to be man enough to understand you are the best player. You are the franchise player. To whom much is given, much is expected. But you know what I like about DeMarcus that people don't know about him? He gets in the locker room and when he makes a mistake, he gets up and says, 'That's on me.' That's another part of the process for him." Sacramento Bee

The Kings remain excited about what Vasquez adds and will do what they can to retain him. "My feelings for Greivis haven't changed from the day we got him other than the fact that we had this deadline in front of us," D'Alessandro said. "We see him as a big part of what we're doing."
