Gustavo Ayón and Mexico completed their improbable run to the FIBA Americas Championship game with a 91-89 win over Puerto Rico Wednesday night. Ayón scored 20 points and pulled down a game-high 16 rebounds to complete a magnificent individual tournament performance that crowned him MVP. Ayón also made the all-tournament team, averaging 17.2 points and 8.4 rebounds. Puerto Rico and Mexico exchanged leads throughout the fourth quarter, and the Puerto Ricans missed an open three-pointer at the buzzer that would have won it. hawks.com

"Milwaukee didn't want my services, so they waived me and Atlanta came away with my services," the 6-foot-10 Ayon said. "I didn't have any illusions of returning to Europe this year. I came [to the NBA] for three years and we'll see what happens. If nothing is accomplished, we'll have to come to a decision and see what happens." ESPN.com

"It makes very happy because Al Horford, another Latino, is there," Ayon said. "I've spoken to him some when I've played against him and find him to be a good guy. I hope to have a good chemistry and aside from that he's a very well-respected player inside the NBA and he can teach me a lot of things." ESPN.com

Power forward Gustavo Ayon worked out with the Bucks coaches on the Cousins Center floor Tuesday. Ayon, who was part of the February trade deadline deal with Orlando that brought J.J. Redick to Milwaukee, said he will be part of the Bucks' summer league squad in Las Vegas next month. The 28-year-old from Fuenlabrada, Mexico hopes the Bucks will pick up the $1.5 million option on his contract, a team option with a July deadline.
