The Raptors have found chemistry, something that's almost impossible to measure or explain, something the organization values above all else, and messing with it at this stage could be risky. "You look at past history where teams have been in a positive situation, they've been winning or maybe they've lost but they're in a great situation as far as standings go," Patterson said. "And they make a trade and next thing you know that trade messes up the chemistry and causes them to play horribly, have problems in the locker room, thus resulting in a horrible season after that and losing in the playoffs too early. If you look in the past this happened multiple times." "The position we are in now, it's not by accident," DeRozan added. "It's the hard work and the talent and the guys that we've got here. Granted, we had a couple of injuries here and there, me being out, [James Johnson] missing a few games, but I think once we're back on our feet, we'll get back to how we were at the start of the season." Johnson came baseline at Drummond, elevated while drawing back his arm and then jammed it home over Drummond’s head. As good as the dunk was — and it may have been the best most of us have seen this year — Johnson’s post-game description of it was even better. “That was nasty, right?” James said. “I cocked that joint back and I banged on him.” Toronto Sun

Johnson's dunk on Andre Drummond made it 95-75 midway through the fourth and on Toronto's next possession, Drummond smashed into Johnson with a forearm and hip smash. That set off a melee that saw Drummond get a flagrant foul and four technicals called. At least one Raptors fan was ejected at the same time after a verbal altercation with the Pistons' Josh Smith. "That was nasty, but that's basketball," said Johnson. "I don't expect anything less from anybody that's trying to win. Frustration sets in when you want to win — no hard feelings." USA Today Sports

While Johnson is only averaging 7.2 points and 3.8 rebounds in 19.6 minutes per game – far from flashy stats – he has become a big part of Toronto’s success. When you dig into the advanced stats, you’ll find he has an impressive plus/minus score of + 58 which is almost as good as Terrence Ross (64) and much better than Jonas Valanciunas (26). On Friday night against the Cleveland Cavaliers, Johnson was one of only three players to have a positive plus/minus score and he had a team-high +4 while spending most of his time on the court guarding LeBron James. "I was nervous because it was my first game," he admitted when it was all over. "I had just two practices with the team, so I was a little bit nervous." Nogueira waited anxiously, standing in front of his locker just over an hour ahead of tip-off. James Johnson, his neighbour and one of his biggest supporters on the team, came over to give him a pep talk. TSN

Per team policy, financial details were not disclosed. “We are happy to have James return to our club,” said Raptors President and General Manager Masai Ujiri. “He provides us with size at small forward and gives us additional depth up front.” NBA.com

Casey and Johnson, who was a non-restricted free agent this summer, met on two occasions in Las Vegas recently ahead of the Vegas summer league tournament. They had a dinner, a breakfast and an earnest man-to-man talk before putting to rest what, if any, lingering resentments remained from that incident two years ago. And then the two decided to give it another try. In the immediate aftermath of the signing, Casey told reporters in Vegas he was convinced that Johnson understood his role going forward, hinting strongly that accepting his role was the at the heart of his problems with Johnson two years earlier. James Johnson says his issues with Toronto Raptors coach Dwane Casey are a thing of the past. Johnson and guard Greivis Vasquez both met with the media Tuesday after signing two-year deals with the club. While Vasquez was largely expected to return, brining Johnson back into the fold is somewhat of a surprise. National Post
