HoopsHype Jared Sullinger rumors

December 6, 2013 Updates

Sullinger has some credit to pass around for the Celts’ improvements on the defensive end. “I think you’ve got to put a big chunk of that on Brandon (Bass) and a big chunk of that on assistant coach Ron Adams,” Jared Sullinger said. “Ron Adams was the defensive coach and assistant coach in Chicago, and obviously Chicago plays some tough defense, and he knows his stuff. And also I think Brandon really, as far as the bigs standpoint, took on that role of talking to us and teaching us defensive principles. And also Gerald (Wallace) as far as the guards. Gerald is a defensive-minded guy, obviously. He’s always on the ground. He’s always taking charges. Those three guys right there have really helped us out.” Boston Herald

The Celtics forward said last night that his team is made for only a select group — those who don’t believe its main goal should be the draft lottery. “If we win, don’t jump on our bandwagon now,” Sullinger, who thumbed his nose at tank talkers following Monday’s practice, said before last night’s 108-100 win against Milwaukee. “We don’t want wishy-washy fans. As grown men, we play hard and do the best for this team. For everybody else outside the circle, we could care less.” Boston Herald

Sullinger also reiterated his belief that the Celtics could be a playoff team this season. As for those who laugh at the thought of the C’s in the postseason, the forward was dismissive. “The same guys who are laughing at us are the ones who said we were going to win five games,” said Sullinger, who had 12 points last night. “Now all of a sudden we win some, we lose some, and guys are saying they’re surprised with how the Celtics are playing.” Boston Herald

The Celtics are as quiet as ever about a Rondo timetable. “Even if it’s 100 percent, there aren’t other bodies on the floor,” coach Brad Stevens said of Rondo’s level of activity. “He’s been playing a little bit of one-on-one before games, but I haven’t seen a lot that would say he’s close to ready. I haven’t seen a timeline, or heard about anything in the near future.” But anecdotal evidence is starting to build that Rondo may be ready for an increase in activity. “He still has his quickness — he can still finish with either hand,” forward Jared Sullinger said. “Rondo is Rondo, and when that knee gets healthy, look out.” Boston Herald

Sullinger was out of the lineup against Charlotte with a bone bruise in his right knee and said he felt some discomfort at times last night. But he said he wasn’t paying attention to his minutes as he played all but 53 seconds of the fourth quarter. “That’s why God created ice,” Sullinger quipped when asked how he would respond today on the second night of a back-to-back. “‘Ice, Ice Baby,’ according to that song. That’s what I’m going to do all night.” Boston Herald

Jared Sullinger, for one, wasn’t bugged by the remarks from his mates. “That’s just our teammates speaking up and just seeing what they see,” he said. “You can’t really take anything personal. Once you start taking things personal, that’s when people fall apart. We understood what was said in the media. We’re just going to move forward from it as a team — not individually but as a team we’re going to move forward from it and understand that they’re just voicing their opinion. So hopefully it helps our team out.” Boston Herald
