Budenholzer said he would resist the temptation of increasing the minutes of starter Jeff Teague. “No, at least I hope not,” Budenholzer said of increased minutes for Teague. “He’s been playing pretty big minutes. Could he play a couple more? Sure. I don’t want to play Jeff the whole game. I think we’ve been keeping him around 32 to 36 (minutes). That will kind of be the plan again. When you get in the heat of the moment you may adjust a little bit. We feel good about Shelvin and feel good about our group. I don’t think I want to run Jeff into the ground this early in the season.” Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Hawks general manager Danny Ferry was troubled after point guard Jeff Teague was injured tripping over a baseline attendant during the first quarter of Tuesday’s game. Teague suffered a left ankle sprain and briefly left for the locker room to be re-taped. He returned in the second quarter. Ferry was visibly upset after the incident and followed Teague into the locker room. “The courts can be obstacle courses because of the cameramen and team staff parked around its perimeter,” Ferry said. “It’s not safe. The league should address the issue more and I am hopeful they will in the near future. Until then teams need to do a better job enforcing the current standards. Player safety always has to be a huge priority.” Atlanta Journal-Constitution

“I’m excited about coach Bud,” Teague told RealGM. “We’re developing a relationship right now. He’s a really good guy, and a lot of people have been telling me he’s a great coach. I’m excited to work with him. “We’re going in the right direction. We’ve got a lot of talented guys on the roster, a lot of good character guys willing to work. Now we’re becoming a better team." RealGM

Teague said he is happy to remain a Hawk. He showed up at the team’s Las Vegas Summer League game Monday night and there were hugs all around – from Ferry, teammates John Jenkins and Mike Scott, coaches and support personnel. “It’s a process,” Teague said. “I understood that going into it. I was a restricted free agent and I knew that all along. I was happy either way. I’m glad to be back in Atlanta. It’s been home for four years. It’s time to get back to work. “There is no bad blood. We are all professionals.” Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Teague said he was encouraged by the faith the Hawks showed in him by matching the offer sheet. “You have to move forward,” Teague said. “It’s a business. I’m excited to be in Atlanta. I’m ready to work. They want to push me to get better and I’m excited for that. I love John. I love Mike. I’m excited. I saw them today it was all love. I’m excited to be here. “I know they are building a winning culture and I’m excited to be a part of it. I’ve got a good four years to be here and help this team get to a place we haven’t been, the Eastern Conference finals (and beyond).” Atlanta Journal-Constitution

There are probably better places to take an important phone call. When Jeff Teague’s phone rang Saturday – while on a Harry Potter themed amusement park ride in Orlando – he answered. Hawks general manager Danny Ferry was calling with news that the team intended to match the four-year, $32 million offer sheet from the Bucks. Teague would remain in Atlanta. “He said they were going to match the offer and we’re glad to have you back,” Teague told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “I held on a little bit, got off the ride and we started talking a little bit more.” Atlanta Journal-Constitution

“We are happy to bring Jeff back to our team. He has improved each year of his career and continues to get better,” Ferry said. “At 25, he’s already been a key contributor on a playoff team and we look forward to seeing him develop into even more of a leader on our team.” NBA.com
