Humphries, Celtics teammate Jerryd Bayless and the six others spent three days in classrooms and in roundtable, on-camera chats, just like the real thing on ESPN. As a sign of how intriguing this could become, ESPN’s Gerry Matalon, the conglomerate’s on-air talent chief, attended as an observer. Humphries, in a navy blue jacket and skinny gray tie, sat in front of a screen displaying the logos of the San Antonio Spurs and Miami Heat and attempted to be animated and precise. He gestured with both hands and stared down the camera. Boston Herald

Jerryd Bayless: "It’s been great not only playing getting to play with Rondo, but getting to know him. He is a very smart person, and a lot of the stuff that’s out there about him being tough to deal with is the farthest thing from the truth. He’s great with teammates and with our coach, Brad Stevens. I’ve had a great time being able to get to know Rondo in the last couple months, and hopefully, we can grow as teammates for a long time." JerrydBayless.com

Jerryd Bayless: "I wasn’t here when Pierce, Garnett and Allen were, but it seems like transitioning to being the team leader has come pretty naturally for Rondo. I think he has been preparing for it for a long time, and it shows. He’s a great leader. He’s able to lead vocally and through his actions. When there’s something that needs to be said, he’ll say it, and he leads by example every day. He’s one of the first to the gym and one of the last to leave. He definitely surpassed anything I would have thought." JerrydBayless.com

Never mind. The Celtics won. Jeff Green put the team on his shoulders and scored a season-high 39 points, while the Wizards wilted with a display of selfish basketball. Boston blew a 19-point first-half lead, but Gerald Wallace made a driving layup with 2.5 seconds remaining in overtime Wednesday night for the 113-111 victory that snapped a 10-game road losing streak. ‘‘Lot of reasons to give up,’’ Celtics coach Brad Stevens said. ‘‘And they didn’t do that.’’ Green shot early and often, finishing with career-highs in 3-pointers attempted (16) and made (8). Rookie Phil Pressey added a career-high 20 points. The Celtics played without Rajon Rando, Avery Bradley and Jerryd Bayless and at one point had Chris Johnson and Vander Blue, both on 10-day contracts, on the floor together in the second quarter. ‘‘I just put myself in the position where I had to be the man to carry the team and shoot the ball,’’ Green said. ‘‘So that’s what I did.’’ Boston Globe

Stevens also said that Jerryd Bayless will miss the game with a sprained left big toe and could be sidelined 7-10 days. With Bayless out, reserve point guard Phil Pressey figures to play even more minutes. Boston Globe

A footnote relating to the Boston Celtics-Memphis Grizzlies-Oklahoma City Thunder trade that was completed earlier this week: the Grizzlies didn't just get shooting guard Courtney Lee and a 2016 second-round pick (via the Celtics), they were also given $1.1 million from the Thunder that must be paid within 30 business days. Considering Memphis dealt the expiring deal of Jerryd Bayless ($3.1 million) for Lee's contract that has approximately $11 million combined from this season and next, the extra cash should come in handy.
