Shawn Bradley wasn’t about to disappear when he retired from the NBA eight years ago. When you’re 7-6, there’s no such thing as fading into the background. Most of Bradley’s focus is on wife Annette and their six children in Murray, Utah. But he’s also found time to run for the state House of Representatives, dabble in real estate, ride his custom-made bicycle in a few 100-mile rides, take an active role in several charities, chair the board of a school for at-risk teens, work on his family’s ranch near Roosevelt in central Utah and even play guitar in a YouTube video promoting Jimmer Fredette. “That was not one of my better moments,” Bradley says of the video. “When the right guy calls, you do something like that. I felt ridiculous (he was wearing a BYU letter jacket and a wig that looked as if it was borrowed from a mop). When we first got there, I said, ‘If (former BYU football coach) LaVell Edwards is not walking through those doors, I’m gone.’ But he showed up and if he was willing to do that, so was I. Luckily, my teenage daughters were not embarrassed by it. To them, it was just dad being dad.” High School Sports

Petrie said Fredette is still in the Kings' plans. But the team has to figure out if Fredette is indeed a point guard or more of a combo guard, which would free him to score more and not run the offense as much. "Everybody eventually gets their opportunity," Petrie said. "He's got a real good feel for the game, and he hasn't come close to shooting the ball to his potential. That's not a concern given the quality of his stroke and his history of making shots. It'll just require some patience and time." Sacramento Bee

The NBA is a fraternity. And just like any brotherhood, new members earn their stripes through a little bit of hazing. Jason Thompson went through it. Jimmer Fredette went through it. And this year, Thomas Robinson is no exception. At last night’s open practice at Sleep Train Arena, the rookie power forward was forced to showcase his vocal talents for the fans in attendance. Fortunately for him, he had a little help from teammate Tyler Honeycutt. Cowbell Kingdom

The Sacramento Kings today exercised the 2013-14 contract options of center DeMarcus Cousins and guard Jimmer Fredette, according to Kings’ President of Basketball Operations Geoff Petrie. “We’re looking forward to seeing DeMarcus and Jimmer play this year and continue to grow, improve and help this team be successful,” said Petrie. We definitely are not there yet. We are not close to there. Fredette is more outspoken and self-assured and at least in the right positions on defense more often. But he still has shot just 5-for-14 in two exhibitions. He insists, though, this is a different Jimmer. "Coming into last year, sometimes you've got to feel people out," he said. "I think that was the biggest thing with me, being more vocal this year, being more confident in my abilities, not worrying about making mistakes and going out there and playing." NBA.com

The guy who as a senior at BYU scored the 11th-most points in NCAA history and collected a ton of Player of the Year hardware needed to be more confident? The shooter with range to about the locker room had to become more certain of his abilities? "I did have confidence," Fredette said. "But when you're not playing as much and some games you don't play at all, you sometimes can doubt what's going on. I tried to do the best that I could to stay confident in my abilities. And I always have been. But I think this year I'm more confident just with the NBA game. I was confident, obviously, at the college level, and it's a new level, it's a new challenge. You've just got to continue to gain that confidence going into this year. "I'm feeling very confident this year, though. I'm excited to do some great things." NBA.com

Fredette said his summer marriage to Whitney, a former BYU cheerleader, is the best decision he's made and will help him in the NBA. He says marriage has changed him a lot and having a partner to share his ups and downs will prove valuable. "Whitney is an amazing girl and so supportive of me and now when I travel, she can travel with me so I don't have to go at it alone and don't have to worry about that part of my life and she will be there to support me just like I will be there to support her. Fredette said thinking and worrying about basketball all the time can, sometimes, hurt a player. "The last three months has been great and I'm excited in what the future holds. Whitney is the best, she is so kind to everyone, understanding of my schedule and knowing what I have to do. She is supportive, just like I am with her." Fredette said his preparations for his second season in the NBA are far ahead of a year ago with a minicamp under his belt and knowledge of what he needs to do and what he cannot do. "Mentally, I'm more prepared." Deseret News

Speaking of Kings, Jimmer Fredette would love to go someplace where someone other than just DeMarcus Cousins will pass him the ball. Thunder would love to pry Fredette away from Kings as replacement for Derek Fisher. Kevin Durant is a Jimmer fan. Sulia
