McRoberts put to rest speculation that he might return for the end of this season or the playoffs. There are only seven games remaining of the regular season, and the Heat is currently eighth in the Eastern Conference standings. "I wouldn’t think so," McRoberts said. "I would still think I’d be out for the year at this point." Miami Herald

McRoberts has been mostly out of view other than team events and fundraisers, and the Heat initially said he was likely out for the season. Coach Erik Spoelstra has been asked about him over the past few weeks, though, and has not ruled out the possibility of him returning. “He’s still not working with coaches,” Spoelstra said Friday. “Everything is with trainers right now. I check in with him every single day. Most of the work is in the training room and the weight room.” Palm Beach Post

Yes, the Heat could wait until March 1 to outbid another team on the buyout market. But their need for roster relief would appear to be far more immediate. The exception can be spent between now and March 10, but this appears to be a sooner-rather-than-later situation. Then again, if the Heat can stabilize their situation, it would give them a card they could use down the road (say if they trade one of their point guards and choose to use it on a point guard, instead). The Miami HEAT announced today that forward Josh McRoberts underwent successful surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee. The 45-minute procedure was performed by Dr. Harlan Selesnick at Doctors Hospital in Miami on Monday. He will miss the remainder of the season. McRoberts appeared in 17 games (four starts) this season for the HEAT and averaged 4.2 points, 2.6 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 17.4 minutes while shooting 52.8 percent from the field and 42.1 percent from three-point range. The Miami Heat will apply to the NBA for a disabled-player exception to help replace forward Josh McRoberts, who is expected to be out for the remainder of season with a torn meniscus in his right knee. Under NBA rules, if McRoberts' injury is deemed by an independent NBA physician to be deemed season ending, the Heat then would receive half of McRoberts' 2014-15 salary for a replacement player, either through a trade or free-agent signing. For now, the injury is being cast as one that would have McRoberts out the balance of 2014-15. "Likely will be out for the season," coach Erik Spoelstra said after Tuesday's shootaround at Baruch College, in advance of Tuesday night's game against the Brooklyn Nets at Barclays Center. "We'll find out more when he has the surgery on Monday or Tuesday. But we're proceeding as if he won't there." South Florida Sun-Sentinel
