The Cleveland Cavaliers have acquired forward/center Marreese Speights, guard Wayne Ellington, guard Josh Selby and a future first round draft pick from the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for forward Jon Leuer, Cavaliers General Manager Chris Grant announced today from Cleveland Clinic Courts. The Cavaliers also waived guard Jeremy Pargo. “Marreese will strengthen our front court, while Wayne and Josh will add depth to our back court. At the same time, we are adding a valuable asset with another future first round pick, while also maintaining our future flexibility,” said Cavaliers General Manager Chris Grant. “We wish Jon and Jeremy the best as they move on with their careers and thank them for their time with us here in Cleveland.” NBA.com

However, it is important to the Grizzlies because it saves them roughly $6.2 million in salary, getting them below the $70.3 million luxury tax threshold and helping them avoid tax payments after the season. The Grizzlies, recently purchased by Robert Pera, who has restructured the front office, had been shopping forward Rudy Gay in an effort to trim salary. This might be a sign that Memphis is willing to keep Gay and see how the season plays out. USA Today Sports

Memphis finished the summer league with a 2-3 record. Selby had 11 points in the finale but he lit up the scoreboard in the Grizzlies' first four games. The 6-2 guard was as efficient and electrifying scoring the basketball over the past week as Memphis' recent free-agent acquisition Jerryd Bayless, who won the 2008 summer league MVP. "We are very happy for Josh being named co-MVP of The NBA Summer League in Las Vegas. He was extremely productive offensively," Griz general manager Chris Wallace said. "Hopefully he can gain momentum for the remainder of the offseason from his performance." Memphis Commercial Appeal

Griz coach Lionel Hollins said Selby's D-League tour would give him "an opportunity to see four or five game tapes to see exactly what he is. We've been trying to patch him in at point guard. Is he a point guard? We don't know. Is he better at the off-guard spot? We don't know. He's never played it for us. I'd just like to get an opportunity to see him when he's playing a lot of minutes." Iman Shumpert: Friday night, I headed out to Bridgeport, Conn., to play in another charity game for us locked-out players. The people who came out — maybe 2,000 — provided us plenty energy with cheers and competitive boos. I decided to sit out the last part of the game after going up for a dunk and feeling an awkward pain in my knee. I could have kept playing, but decided just to ice it to ensure I was OK. Nothing major. I think it was due to not warming up at half because I was hanging out with fans and doing photos and autographs, which is partly why we were there. Some of the many participants were Tyreke Evans, Sam Young, Josh Selby, Wes Mathews, Nolan Smith, Howard Thomkins and Travis Leslie. My team won, 171-169. The best part for me was getting a chance to connect with more Knicks fans praying for a season! It was a great turnout. New York Post
