While Saturday is the day when all NBA contracts become guaranteed for the season, players without fully guaranteed contracts must be waived by 5 p.m. Wednesday to not have their salaries still be on the books after the 48-hour waiver period on Saturday. For the Heat, the only players whose salaries are impacted by the guarantee deadline are Justin Hamilton, Hassan Whiteside and Andre Dawkins. (Rookie James Ennis had his contract guaranteed at the start of the season.) The decisions figure to come down to more than dollars and cents, with Hamilton already guaranteed 75 percent of his $816,000 2014-15 salary and Whiteside $100,000 of his $770,000 salary. Also, unlike during recent seasons, the Heat no longer are operating above the NBA's luxury-tax line, so there is no tax multiplier in effect when it comes to team payroll.
