Miami HEAT President Pat Riley announced today that they have acquired brothers Goran Dragic and Zoran Dragic from the Phoenix Suns in part of a three-team trade involving the New Orleans Pelicans. Phoenix received Danny Granger and two future first round draft picks from Miami and John Salmons from New Orleans while the Pelicans received Norris Cole, Justin Hamilton and Shawne Williams from the HEAT. The Phoenix Suns today completed a deal to acquire two future first-round draft picks from the Miami Heat. The Suns also received forward/guard Danny Granger from Miami and forward John Salmons, who will be waived, from the New Orleans Pelicans in the three-team trade. As part of the deal, the Suns send guards Goran Dragic and Zoran Dragic to the Heat and the Pelicans receive guard Norris Cole, center Justin Hamilton and forward Shawne Williams from Miami. The Suns received Miami’s 2017 first-round pick (protected to seven) and Miami’s unprotected 2021 first-round pick as part of the deal. NBA.com

After missing nine games due to a concussion, Heat forward Justin Hamilton is on the verge of returning to the lineup. Hamilton completed his first practice Tuesday since sustaining the injury Dec. 17 against the Utah Jazz. He is expected to be cleared to play in Thursday's game against the Portland Trailblazers. While Saturday is the day when all NBA contracts become guaranteed for the season, players without fully guaranteed contracts must be waived by 5 p.m. Wednesday to not have their salaries still be on the books after the 48-hour waiver period on Saturday. For the Heat, the only players whose salaries are impacted by the guarantee deadline are Justin Hamilton, Hassan Whiteside and Andre Dawkins. (Rookie James Ennis had his contract guaranteed at the start of the season.) The decisions figure to come down to more than dollars and cents, with Hamilton already guaranteed 75 percent of his $816,000 2014-15 salary and Whiteside $100,000 of his $770,000 salary. Also, unlike during recent seasons, the Heat no longer are operating above the NBA's luxury-tax line, so there is no tax multiplier in effect when it comes to team payroll. Not only did the Heat call up Whiteside from the NBA Development League last week, but they did it as part of a two-year package that included a $100,000 guarantee and conditional guarantees for 2015-16. Coach Erik Spoelstra confirmed Thursday that center Justin Hamilton will make his preseason debut in Friday's game against the Memphis Grizzlies at the FedExForum. Hamilton was held out of the first seven exhibitions of the eight-game preseason schedule following a heart procedure the first week of training camp. Spoelstra said Hamilton has gone through full contact drilling the past two practices at AmericanAirlines Arena. South Florida Sun-Sentinel
