Will Bynum: There's a lot of new faces on the team. I really like Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. He has the potential to become a great defender. He has a high basketball IQ and he plays basketball the right way. Chauncey said he was like a Tony Allen/Bruce Bowen type of energetic defender. Everybody was very competitive during the preseason: myself, Brandon Jennings, Josh Smith, Greg Monroe, Charlie Villanueva... Everybody! HoopsHype

Billups was asked if Caldwell-Pope defensively reminds him of a young Tayshaun Prince. “It’s different,” he said. “Tay was always, and still is, a very good, solid defender. He’s just going to stay in front of you, contest the shots. He’s not going to put a lot of pressure on you or make you turn your back. This kid is different. He’s got great feet, he’s got great hands, he’s going to pressure you. He’s not going to just wait until you make a move. He’s going to pressure you and force your hand. He’s more of a Tony Allen, Bruce Bowen type of energetic defender.” NBA.com

According to a source, Oklahoma City really is intrigued by Caldwell-Pope and would consider trading up to land him. Several teams I spoke with believe he is the target of several teams looking to jump the Thunder. SheridanHoops

Caldwell-Pope said he’s worked out with the Timberwolves (No. 9), Trail Blazers (No. 10), Mavericks (No. 13), Bucks (No. 15), Celtics (No. 16) and Cavaliers (No. 19). “It would be surprising just to go to a team that I didn’t work out for,” Caldwell-Pope said. “They haven’t seen me, what I can do. it would just be surprising to me.” He also said that he expects to be a top-10 pick. So, Caldwell-Pope doesn’t need to read another mock draft to get a read on his stock. It sounds like he has a firm grasp already. Connect the dots, and he expects to go to the Timberwolves or Trail Blazers. NBCSports.com

The Timberwolves concluded predraft workouts on Monday, bringing North Texas forward Tony Mitchell to Target Center for a morning session and some lunch. With the clock ticking toward Thursday’s NBA draft, Wolves new President of Basketball Operations Flip Saunders sounded like a guy ready to keep the night’s ninth pick — perhaps to select Georgia shooting guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope — rather than give what few assets he has to trade in an attempt to move up for a chance at Indiana’s Victor Oladipo or Kansas’ Ben McLemore. “We’re not going to deplete our whole talent pool,” Saunders said. “There are good players in this draft, but right now, there are not impact players, no one you look at who within two years will be an All-Star, like Kyrie Irving was. There are good players, probably pretty good players, but are they going to be that All-Star or future Hall of Famer? In order to dilute your talent pool, you’ve got to get an impact-type player.” Minneapolis Star-Tribune

It sounds as if the Timberwolves have narrowed things down to Caldwell-Pope and Shabazz Muhammad. Although Muhammad is more of a natural scorer, it's hard to believe the Wolves will pass on Caldwell-Pope's shooting abilities ESPN.com
