"Instead of trying Dirk Nowitzki (with the Dallas Mavericks in his recent return from knee surgery) and playing on a 15-minute limit ... why not do 15 minutes in the D-League?" Kirk Lacob said. "Then if you play well, then it's 25 minutes the next time, and they build you back up. Then come back, and you can start in your first game in the NBA, and you don't have to waste all that time." So naturally, our conversation briefly shifted to women's basketball: with the Lacob family and Weyermann now working together as part of an organization that just bought into both the NBA and the D-League, how much interest is there in getting back into women's basketball and bringing a WNBA team back to the Northern California? "Well, I don't know what I'm allowed to say and what I really should say, but to be clear [Weyermann] is a president of the Santa Cruz Warriors but his overarching title is Vice President of New Franchise Development - that's his full title," Kirk Lacob responded when asked about the possibility of the organization bringing the WNBA to the Bay Area. "So he might be president of this team, but for the Warriors he still has a title: he's the Vice President of New Franchise Development. His job is to help us with any new projects that happen." A prospect walks into a small hotel room, a room that has had the bed removed in favor of a round table and offers Walgreens-purchased water as the only refreshments. The prospect sees two headboards on the wall, but no beds. He sees a table, half glasses of water and eight people (Jerry West, Bob Myers, Travis Schlenk, Kirk Lacob, Mark Jackson, Larry Riley, Larry Harris and Speedy Claxton) ready to interrogate. The D-League still must approve the team’s relocation. That is little more than a formality, Kirk Lacob, assistant general manager of the Warriors, told The Bismarck Tribune. Boston Herald The clock has nearly run out on the Dakota Wizards. Early Wednesday morning the Santa Cruz City Council voted 7-0 to appropriate funds and finish a deal with parameters set forth that will result in the Wizards moving to the California community for the 2012-13 season. The D-League must approve the relocation bid. The terms of the agreement call for the city to loan the Golden State Warriors, who own the Wizards, $3.5 million to build a semi-permanent facility in Santa Cruz. Bismarck Tribune Kirk Lacob, who was recently promoted to assistant general manager of the Warriors, said the results of the vote, which was completed around 1:30 a.m. CST, was greeted with a standing ovation. "On behalf of the Golden State Warriors organization, I'm proud of what we have accomplished thus far," Lacob said. "We are very excited about the (D-League) team's future in Santa Cruz and the opportunity to extend the reach of the Warriors' brand. We will continue to work hard and innovate to bring our fans new and exciting activities and give the Warriors the best chance to win on the court. Bismarck Tribune |

Warriors director of basketball operations Kirk Lacob was named general manager of the team's NBA Development League affiliate Wednesday. A news release to announce the Dakota Wizards' open tryout in the Bay Area spilled the scoop by referencing Lacob as the team's GM. Until the release, the Warriors hadn't publicly given titles to their D-League front office -- saying only that the minor-league roster would be manned by the Warriors' basketball ops hierarchy of GM Larry Riley, assistant GM Bob Myers, director of player personnel Travis Schlenk and Lacob.
