That particular skill has translated brilliantly to the NBA level, where McDaniels succeeds the aforementioned Wade and James as one of the most awesome and surprising help-side shot blockers in the league. The jewel of his rejection résumé might just be the play of the season to date: A complete demolition of a Greivis Vasquez runner, rocketed into the stands at such a violent velocity as to cause actual injury. “I surprised myself,” McDaniels said of the block. “There was a lady who got hit by the ball who got a concussion, I believe.” McDaniels, upon hearing what happened, sent flowers. Sports Illustrated

" [I'm] just using my length, using my athleticism – keep a hand above the ball and keep one below it," McDaniels said regarding his shot-blocking technique against potential jump shooters. "I’m trying to be second off the floor. That’s what Coach Brown is preaching to us all the time – just trying to be second of the floor and get a good contest. And as bad as I do want those blocks, I have to play smart and not let [opponents] get me up off my feet and pick up cheap, easy fouls. It’s just being smart, as well as trusting yourself and trusting your athletic ability." Sports Illustrated

Among all rookies, the 2014 ACC Defensive Player of the Year has logged the sixth-most minutes per game (24.0) and has averaged the third-most points (10.2 PPG), ninth-most rebounds (3.2 RPG), and is tied with teammate Nerlens Noel for most blocks (1.3 BPG). That last number, more than any other, has turned heads around the league. In the last 20 years, only three players 6’6” or shorter have averaged at least 1.3 blocks per game – Clarence Weatherspoon, Vince Carter, and Dwyane Wade. All three did so while logging 30+ minutes per game, while McDaniels has maintained that pace despite playing 24.0 minutes per game. In fact, among players who’ve averaged at least 20 minutes per game, he’s blocked the most shots per 36 minutes (1.9) of any his height since Julius Erving in 1983-84. NBA.com

In October, she tweeted that the Sixers were a "screwed up program." McDaniels said Thursday that he did not see his mother's social media activity. The Twitter account @KJsMOMshawn was deleted sometime after the team's afternoon practice. It was not the first time that she had voiced her displeasure on Twitter. When McDaniels was playing at Clemson, she posted that her son was surrounded by "haters, fools, and idiots." It was a one-man team, she wrote, and the coach was sabotaging McDaniels' chances of making the NBA. Philadelphia Inquirer

Philadelphia's K.J. McDaniels, the 32nd overall pick in the 2014 NBA draft, made a bold decision on his rookie contract, agreeing to a one-year, non-guaranteed tender that could make him a restricted free agent next July. Yahoo! Sports

McDaniels’ agent, Mark Bartelstein, wouldn't accept the 76ers’ structure of two guaranteed contract seasons that included two non-guaranteed seasons in years three and four of the deal. The 76ers have had success using these contracts to control young players’ service and flipping the non-guaranteed seasons into valuable trade chips. Yahoo! Sports

McDaniels was not present Tuesday for the opening day of training camp at Richard Stockton College. As of Tuesday afternoon, he had yet to sign his contract. The Sixers expect him to sign it in the near future. "It's just a situation that comes up, and [general manager] Sam [Hinkie] is handling it," coach Brett Brown said. "I trust Sam will handle it the way we need to as a club. Philadelphia Inquirer
