HoopsHype Kyle Singler rumors

Is the Thunder doing the right thing by attempting to re-sign Singler this summer? Mayberry: Given how the team’s financial state effectively prevents it from going out and getting someone better, I’ll say yes. Singler has got to be a better player than what he showed with the Thunder last season. Perhaps a full season in OKC and a full complement of players will help show his true value. But I’d start thinking twice if the price tag starts going anywhere north of what’s been budgeted. He’s still a role player, one who easily can be replaced. Oklahoman

Q: What makes you confident the team can re-sign Enes Kanter this summer, and what did you see in Kyle Singler that makes you interested in bringing him back? Sam Presti: Both players stand to be restricted free agents in their early-to-mid 20's, and this, in combination with the pending TV money hitting the system in the future made it possible for us to pursue both aggressively in trade while still maintaining confidence that we could continue to build a team around our core in the coming years. Enes is someone we are committed to seeing in a Thunder uniform moving forward. With regards to Singler, finding a player in free agency that can shoot close to 40% from the three point line over the course of a season, embrace various roles, and stand as one of your more fundamental players at 6-9 is unlikely when over the cap and tax. Therefore, we are hopeful we will be able to keep working with him in the future. Oklahoman

Vincent Ellis: Some tidbits: #Pistons reluctant to trade Singler. Impending RFA played a factor - although Jackson talent main factor. If Singler were a rookie or in second season ... get the sense #Pistons might have just worried about it in off-season. #Pistons Twitter @Vincent_Ellis56

Van Gundy also said it is very unlikely that the Pistons trade anyone currently on a rookie contract, which includes Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Spencer Dinwiddie, Andre Drummond and Kyle Singler. "Not going to happen," Van Gundy said. "Not going to happen unless you get another guy back on his rookie deal. Basically, our philosophy coming in is first-round draft picks and rookie deals, you're giving those up to either get similar back, or if there's a star. If there's one of the real stars in the league, then obviously, everything changes. But other than that, no, those guys on rookie deals are too important, and we really like our young guys. So no, that's not going to happen." Booth Newspapers

Detroit Pistons forward Kyle Singler will be wearing a protective mask on his face against the Milwaukee Bucks tonight after suffering a nasal fracture Wednesday against the Orlando Magic. Singler was fitted for the mask Friday and the Pistons didn't have a shoot around this morning so he'll test it out for the first time in warm ups before taking the floor against the Bucks. But when Andre Drummond's injury forced him out of Friday's game for rookies and second-year players in conjunction with NBA All-Star Weekend in Houston, leaving only second-year Brandon Knight from the Pistons, head coach Lawrence Frank said he felt sure that Singler would be named the rookie replacement. Orlando's Andrew Nicholson was tapped instead and Frank said he considered it it a snub to Singler. "Maybe he's one of those guys that unless you coach him, there's not the appreciation," Frank said. "But his numbers, you look at his numbers, he's in the top nine of that rookie group. So I thought he was snubbed but what are you going to do?" Booth Newspapers

Kyle Singler is really good at trick shots. He did it at Duke all around the campus. So now the Pistons took him out and had him take shots all around Detroit — getting buckets. My favorites are the field goal at Ford Field and… okay, that moving car shot may be the best trick shot I have ever seen. That is impressive. NBCSports.com

Even though the small forward position is crowded with Tayshaun Prince and Corey Maggette, it'll be hard to keep Singler on the bench because of his ability to hit threes and his basketball IQ. "He makes us more athletic," Pistons big man Greg Monroe said. "He's a smart player." Singler said: "I'm here getting to know my teammates." Detroit Free Press
