The Knicks still like their odds of keeping Carmelo Anthony following their meeting in Los Angeles with Anthony and his agent Leon Rose on Friday night. Despite a report Anthony was “leaning’’ toward leaving the Knicks because of interest from the Bulls and Rockets, Knicks officials did not seem alarmed, according to NBA sources. New York Post

According to a source close to president Phil Jackson, “The meeting went well — [Anthony] will still most likely opt out — but all in all, a good meeting.’’ The Knicks were informed about two weeks ago Anthony likely would opt out at the June 23 deadline and become a free agent July 1, despite Jackson’s suggestion he wait a year for free agency. On Wednesday in Green Bay, Wis., Woodson said “respect” for J.R. Smith would be a factor in weighing whether to keep Chris Smith, who played just 20 minutes during the preseason. Also this week, Woodson indicated Tyler was a keeper, saying at one point he did not think the Knicks would “kick him to the curb.” Smith is expected to spend much of the season getting playing time in the D-League. When Tyler is healthy enough to return, the Knicks could choose to cut Chris Smith, whose $470,000 contract becomes guaranteed on opening night. When Smith hired his brother’s agent, CAA’s Leon Rose, in the spring, The Post reported the brothers’ free agency was seen in some league circles as a “package deal.” New York Post

Smith accepted the terms of a new four-year, $24.7 million contract yesterday, his agent Leon Rose told The Post. Smith, who would have accepted a significantly higher offer elsewhere, will make roughly $6 million per year, starting at the league’s average salary that a source said will be $5.75 million. It was the most the Knicks could offer under the early-Bird rights rules since Smith played only two seasons for the Knicks. And Smith got an opt-out after the third season to boot. New York Post
