For the second straight day, Thibodeau wouldn’t comment on the $35,000 fine he received from the NBA for criticizing officials following Game 3. The Bulls will be without Hinrich, Deng and Derrick Rose but will return Nazr Mohammed, who won’t receive any further league discipline after getting ejected from Game 3 for shoving LeBron James. Moments after the Bulls coach called Luol Deng "day to day" and left Deng's Game 4 availability open because "hopefully, with another 24 hours he's better," Deng painted a graver picture. "I did some individual work (Saturday) and I started throwing up a little bit. I couldn't finish the workout," Deng said. "I tried to practice (Sunday) and the same thing. I just warmed up and couldn't get through practice. My body, my system is not reacting well to anything I'm doing right now." Chicago Tribune

Indeed, Deng continues to sound doubtful for the remainder of the series, even though he admitted he talked to Thibodeau about giving "five or 10 minutes or whatever to give these guys a little break." Deng's illness and subsequent serious complications from a spinal tap that necessitated a blood patch to heal have created a long recovery road. "It's not as bad as it was before," Deng said. "But I can't even get through a regular warm-up." Chicago Tribune

Deng spoke to the media Thursday for the first time since undergoing a spinal tap to test for spinal meningitis. He has been in and out of the hospital and said he's lost about 15 pounds due to the flu and complications from the spinal tap. He admitted he was scared about his initial illness and acknowledged he isn't sure if or when he will be able to return. "It's hard, man," Deng said of having to sit out. "We've had a long season. I've played with a lot of injuries. I've went through the wrist [injury] with torn ligaments. I had a fractured thumb, I played with it. I just went through all that to be able to play. I just didn't think something besides an injury would keep me out, and that's what makes it really hard. I don't know what you can do." ESPN.com

Chicago Bulls forward Luol Deng spoke Thursday about his struggle to recover from the side effects of a spinal tap, first saying "I'll be OK" but expressing doubt about if or when he can return to action. Asked after the Bulls' practice when he might be able to play again, Deng first coughed and then said, "I don’t know. I tried to shoot a little bit and I struggled. I couldn’t do it. We’ll see." Deng said he felt "very"weak on what he said was his first day out of the house and out of the hospital. "I haven’t really left my bed much or done much," he said. Chicago Tribune

Deng said he lost 15 pounds during the ordeal. "It was scary," Deng said. "I never been through anything like that my whole life. It was scary for me, scary for everyone that was around me. I never seen anything like that. I never knew of a spinal tap before that. I didn’t know the reaction or the side effects of it. So I was really scared." Chicago Tribune

On the Thursday that Luol Deng will reunite with teammates in Chicago, Kirk Hinrich is scheduled for a second MRI on his severely bruised left calf, two sources said. The initial exam showed damage to muscle fibers, one source said, but the injury is failing to progress, so a second test will determine if a tear has developed. "Kirk has a ways to go," coach Tom Thibodeau said. Chicago Tribune
