At 34 years old, Marcus Fizer is trying to revive his career the way he has revived his life. He's convinced that his physicality and athleticism will allow him to play for any NBA team, and his re-established Christian faith makes him a perfect mentor in the Warriors' locker room. "I ran from it and fought it for so long, but each and every time I chose to do things my way, God always showed up and let me know that it wasn't about me - over and over and over again," Fizer, a 6-foot-9 forward, said after a two-day workout with the Warriors. "I finally got myself to realize that my purpose in life is bigger than what I want to do. It's to help the people who are coming up behind me." San Francisco Chronicle
Over the past few months Marcus Fizer has dedicated even more time to the game, by shedding weight and reducing body fat in an effort to make one more comeback attempt to play at the highest level of competition – the NBA. “I had a lot of time to think, I had lot of time to be away from the highest level of the game which is the NBA,” Fizer said. “I played in different places overseas which was probably the hardest basketball of my life, and it definitely showed me that if I had the strength and the willpower to compete there at a high level, then I know I can still compete at a high level in the NBA, so I changed my life completely." Taiwan Mobile has decided to release former NBA draft pick Marcus Fizer for his bad attitude, local media reported. Fizer, who played for TM in only one game, told the team his injury flared up and did not practice with the team since then. He asked not to play this week. According to TM head coach Jia Fan, Fizer also demanded extra preferential treatment. Taiwan Hoops
But now born-again Christian and former lottery pick Marcus Fizer is out to remove the “bust” label from his name, return to the NBA and, oh yeah, build a second career as a minister. That’s why you’ll now find Fizer, 33, in his hometown of Arcadia, LA, where he is working out vigilantly for a return to the NBA hardwood (you know, once they actually resume play) while also serving as a youth minster at the local First Arcadia Church of God in Christ. Renewing his faith in October of 2010, he now gives sermons at the church where his guardian is the pastor, serves as the Sunday school superintendent and leads a youth hour each Wednesday. Fizer even has a Christian clothing line coming out. “I’m at peace,” Fizer said. “I’m living a great life with my family. I’ve gotten married. My wife and my kids are together… God took me to a place where he got a lot of people out of my life that weren’t necessarily leading me down the right path.” Lost Lettermen
