Warriors center Marreese Speights pleaded not guilty Tuesday to a charge of driving under the influence stemming from his arrest in August in Tampa. A written not guilty plea was entered by an attorney at Speights’ arraignment, Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office spokesman Mark Cox said Wednesday. Speights’ attorney did not immediately return a message seeking comment. Speights was arrested following a traffic stop the morning after his 27th birthday and according to Tampa police submitted to tests showing breath alcohol levels of .103 and .106 percent, above the .08 unlawful level. Speights was arrested at 3:31 a.m. ET and later submitted to two breathalyzer tests showing breath alcohol contents of .103 and .106, according to the incident log. Florida’s legal limit is .08. Speights became involved in a traffic stop after an officer pulled him over due to a failure to yield right of way while pulling out of a driveway in a black 2012 Bentley, according to the incident log. The officer detected indicators of impairment, and Speights after agreeing to roadside field sobriety exercises was arrested and transported to a breath testing facility, according to the incident log. The Golden State Warriors are tipping off the team’s new “Step Up Your Game” initiative in partnership with a private, statewide health foundation The California Endowment at a Warriors Community Basketball Clinic, it was announced today. A project of the statewide Active Alliance, Step Up Your Game is designed to provide Bay Area youth with fun activities while also encouraging and motivating them to pursue their goals by working hard, making good choices and living a well-balanced lifestyle. For the first event of the program, Warriors players Festus Ezeli, Draymond Green, Nemanja Nedovic and Marreese Speights will run basketball drills with over 100 students from Hayward High School and San Lorenzo High School, along with emphasizing the importance of maximizing their potential.
