Then I would like to say thanks to his beautiful wife, Tori, for sharing him with all of his fans and letting him play a game of basketball for the great city of Seattle at the pro-am on this weekend! Most guys would be lucky to play a game of basketball a week after getting married but Jamal’s wife let him and his friends – Chris Paul, Nate Robinson, LaMarcus Aldridge, Matt Barnes, Tony Wroten, Isaiah Thomas, Dejounte Murray, Wale, Will Conroy – have a pick-up game…at midnight…in front of a few thousand people! That’s love. From wife to husband, husband to fans, fans to the city. It was all love in Seattle last night. Just in case you were wondering who won. Barnes and his teammates found themselves in the center of a media frenzy and, although they debated to protest and not play until Sterling's punishment was handed down, they decided to let the NBA and new Commissioner Adam Silver deal with Sterling and they would play. That decision didn't come easily, as head coach Doc Rivers and his players met to weigh their options. "Everyone thought they had the answer on what to do and what we should do," Barnes said. "Doc brought us in and talked to us the morning after it happened. We all got to air out our feelings, but we decided as a team for Doc to be the only one answering questions and for us to concentrate on basketball, and I think that relieved a little bit of the pressure." news10.net

Then came tragedy for Barnes and his family on July 8, when his aunt, 48-year-old Tanganyika Williams was found stabbed in the neck and laying on a south Sacramento street. She died at a local hospital later that day. Police named her husband, 51-year-old Michael Williams the primary suspect in the fatal stabbing. Barnes, who resides in Los Angeles went to his social media platforms via Twitter and Instagram posting two pictures of Williams and pleading for the public's help to assist police in locating him. "At the time, it was really my only outlet," he said. "Being in L.A. and my aunt being killed out here, I couldn't get up here at the time. Social media has been good and bad for me. I just tried it, I threw the guy's mugshot up there and told the story." news10.net

Barnes felt the awareness that stemmed from his social media experiment, along with the national media attention he received helped bring Williams to justice. "Through all of that, someone called in with a tip and we got him arrested," he said. "It was kind of a shot in the dark. It worked and I thank everyone out there who supported and helped that out. Him (being) caught (and) him going to prison for the rest of his life doesn't bring my aunt back, but it let's our family rest at peace a little more and know that he's going to have to do time for the crime." news10.net

The Los Angeles Clippers players would consider a boycott if Donald Sterling remained the owner of the team at the start of the 2014 season, Matt Barnes confirmed on the Chris Mannix Show on Sunday night according to a transcript of the interview posted on the show’s Facebook page. Barnes’ comments echoed those made by Clippers guard Chris Paul last week. Paul told ESPN.com that he had spoken with Clippers coach Doc Rivers about sitting out if Sterling remained the team’s owner. On Sunday, Barnes said he thought it was realistic that the team would consider not playing next season. “We were very close to doing it last year in the middle of the playoffs, and it hadn’t really sunk in then. Now the full magnitude of what happened has sunk in. People feel very strong about what happened,” he said. “It would be unfortunate if it got to either of those situations but I do believe both are a possibility.” For The Win

The Clippers could consider sending Griffin and Jared Dudley or Griffin and Matt Barnes to Miami to get James. The Clippers wouldn’t mind trading DeAndre Jordan, Jamal Crawford and either Barnes or Dudley to the Heat for James, but the team knows that would most likely be hard to do. Los Angeles Times

The Clippers arrived at Oracle Arena on Sunday without any protest planned, a source said. But just before they ran onto the floor for Game 4, sources say forward Matt Barnes and guard Jamal Crawford convinced teammates to wear their shooting shirts that said "Clippers" on the front inside-out during warm-ups. The Clippers took off their warm-up jackets and tossed them on to the floor at midcourt. The Clippers players also wore black wristbands, tape and socks. Yahoo! Sports

Keith Smart coached Barnes at two stops: in Cleveland, where Barnes’s wayward NBA career began, and later at Golden State, where Barnes finally emerged as a regular rotation player. Smart compares Barnes to a baseball utility player. He is a piece, a valuable piece, but never the piece. And he’s comfortable in that role. “I don’t even know if there’s a word to describe what he does,” Smart said. “It’s that pestability to get beneath someone’s skin.” Grantland
