Whether it was Doc Rivers, Chris Paul, Matt Barnes or DeAndre Jordan, the talk was about the officiating and how the Clippers felt like it was 5-on-8 at times. “It’s getting out of control, man,” Barnes said. “Some of the techs we got tonight were … I mean, we’ve got to do a better job of watching ourself, but I got a tech for saying, ‘He’s not shooting the ball.’ (Hedo Turkoglu) got a tech for saying, ‘That’s not a foul.’ I mean, this is just getting out of control, man. “They’re just whistle-happy.” Orange County Register

With his sons in the stands and some semblance of normalcy returned to his life, Barnes played his best game of the season, scoring 12 points and being far more active on defense. "To me it really doesn't matter if I start,” Barnes said. "I just want to work myself back in, whether I'm starting or coming off the bench. I've had a tough start early on, a lot of s--- off the court going on, but I'm starting to figure it out and play better, so whether that's coming off the bench or starting, it doesn't really matter to me." "I've really made a conscious effort to cool out, and if those are technicals it's going to be a long season," he said. "Fortunately it didn't cost us, but it's crazy." Barnes' teammates came to his side over the summer and have continued to be there as Barnes deals with his divorce, trying to see his kids and dealing with early struggles on the court. “I think we do forget sometimes that we're humans,” Clippers coach Doc Rivers said. “Things go on in your life, and if we think it doesn't affect you as a player, then we're nuts.” ESPN.com

Heading into Wednesday’s game with Phoenix, Barnes is shooting 9.7 percent from the field (3for 31) and 5.6 percent from 3-point range (1 for 18) this preseason. “It’s just a rough stretch. Luckily, it’s only the preseason,” Barnes said last week. “Doc said he’s trying to figure out the starting lineup. He said he wants to bring me off the bench; I want to come off the bench. It’s just a matter of finding a rhythm, clearing my mind and playing basketball. “… It’s a process. I know I can play. It’s just a matter of finding my rhythm, finding my niche coming off the bench with the second unit.” Orange County Register

Barnes, instead, is surrounded by chaos. It has followed him “from the jump” in his life, and right now, with his on-court game struggling and off-court life in the tabloids, peace couldn’t be farther away. The gossip site TMZ is reporting about his split with wife Gloria Govan. (“Going through a divorce is never easy,” Barnes said. “But, my life has always been hectic.”) His spot in the starting lineup is at serious risk, and his on-court play has been a disaster in the preseason’s first five games. Barnes showed up in shorts, a white tank top and his usual array of tattoos, prompting quizzical looks. But he quickly made friends and even received a few pointers from his more seasoned classmates. His yoga and an improved diet that involved eating heartier but smarter helped Barnes lose 18 pounds. At 210 pounds, the veteran of 11 NBA seasons is the lightest he's been since he was a junior in high school. He will probably still play the heavy in any on-court scrapes involving his teammates, but Barnes knew he was reaching the point of his career in which he needed to carry less weight and improve his flexibility. During the offseason, the tattooed enforcer opted for a more spiritual route. He started practicing yoga. "I wish it could have been filmed," he said during Clippers' media day Monday. "I went to a weird yoga class. It was all ladies that were 45 to 60 and I’m in there with a wife beater on and tattoos and my shorts, and these ladies were like, ‘Are you lost?'" Los Angeles Times

Barnes said yoga helped him take off 20 pounds. "Right now I weigh 210 pounds," he said. "I haven’t weighed 210 pounds since 10th grade or 11th grade." Los Angeles Times
