Michael Finley is trying to comeback in the NBA. The experienced player talked to Basketusa about his return to the court admitting that Tony Parker offered him to play in France for ASVEL Villeurbanne. "At the beginning of the season, the Dallas Mavericks offered me a spot at the training camp but I got injured. Other teams are interested in me, I am just waiting for one of them to make the right offer to me. I have spoken with Tony Parker and he offered me the chance to play for his team in France. But my family and my children are in Dallas. I may go for a month, if it is ok for him. I had no offer yet to play but my agent is in contact with 5-10 teams. I cannot reveal the names, I can just say that 5 of them are qualified for the playoffs at the moment. I hope to return to the NBA as a player. But I won't have the chance, I'd like to stay in the NBA as GM or to work for a franchise". Sportando |

![]() Darren Wolfson: I'm told the #Twolves took a call from the Michael Finley camp (he wants back in the #NBA), but said no thanks. Reason #1: at roster limit. Twitter @DarrenWolfson ![]() Former NBA All-Star Michael Finley is putting his front-office career on hold in hopes of extending his playing career, according to sources with knowledge of his plans. Sources told ESPN that Finley, after participating in NBA pickup games all summer, continues to work out vigorously in pursuit of a contract that would give him one more run as an NBA player before shifting his focus to front-office work. ESPN.com Finley then continued to work under Nelson through the offseason, but also never stopped training to keep alive his comeback bid. After Nelson publicly acknowledged for the first time in August that both Finley and former teammate Eduardo Najera were working as special assistants to the GM, sources say the Mavericks invited Finley to training camp as a player on a non-guaranteed contract before a minor calf injury scuttled that plan. ESPN.com Earl K. Sneed: To anyone that spoke with Fin, it was clear he was conflicted about still wanting to play. Hope it works out. Twitter @EKS_MavsNBA |

![]() Former face of the franchise Michael Finley sparked a bit of a stir himself sitting in a baseline seat next to longtime Mavs courtside fixture Neil Hawks for Dallas’ 98-89 victory over Steve Nash’s Phoenix Suns. Catching a Dirk vs. Nash duel, though, is not the only reason Finley’s in town this week. The 38-year-old has worked out for the past two days with newly signed Mavs forward Yi Jianlian under the watchful eye of Texas Legends coach Del Harris, as Finley continues his comeback after a year away from the game. ESPN.com Yi’s time in Dallas will begin with a rehabilitation stint under Harris with the D-League’s Legends so China’s top player -- as he’s known in the wake of Yao Ming’s retirement -- can ease into his return from a knee injury sustained during the lockout while playing in a league game back home. But team sources say that the Legends are also trying to convince Finley to play a few games for them to show NBA teams that he’s fully shaken the ankle problems that restricted the two-time All-Star to a limited role with the Boston Celtics in the 2010 playoffs. ESPN.com Finley, according to sources, is determined to land one last NBA job but is still weighing whether he wants to go the D-League route. If he does decide to submit his name into the D-League player pool, Finley is not guaranteed to land with the Legends, since they would not be at the front of the line to claim him. But it’s believed that Finley would eventually land in Frisco because his agent (Henry Thomas) would presumably inform teams ahead of the Legends in the waiver process that Finley is only willing to play in the D-League if he winds up with the team just 25 miles up the road from the American Airlines Center. ESPN.com Finley, in an interview last week with HoopsHype.com, said, "When I went to Boston, my ankle wasn't 100 percent. So after that season, I got my ankle worked on. I've been working hard to get that at 100 percent. I feel a lot better than during my time in Boston. "With the lockout and the shortened season, I wouldn't be surprised if there's more injuries than usual since there's been not much of a training camp. I'm just working hard to be in shape and prepared in case an NBA team calls me." ESPN.com |

![]() Following up on the tweet, Finley told HoopsHype Friday that’s he’s feeling healthy now and ready to return to pro basketball - in the NBA or elsewhere. The 6-foot-7 last saw action during the Celtics’ Finals run one year and a half ago. Limited by ankle problems, he was little more than a bit player for the eventual NBA runner-up. HoopsHype “I got offers from the D-League before (Ricky Davis or Greg Ostertag) ever thought about playing in the D-League,” Finley said. “My thing is, I want to play basketball, I would enjoy playing in the D-League, but at the same time I don’t want to take an opportunity away from a young guy to get exposure. I’m still thinking about it. If the right situation comes, where I could be something like a player-coach, maybe I would take that opportunity.” HoopsHype |
