The person spoke to USA TODAY Sports on the condition of anonymity because of the private nature of the search. While team officials have already interviewed Byron Scott, Lionel Hollins, Mike Dunleavy, and Kurt Rambis, it is not certain that former Lakers guard Derek Fisher will interview in person for the job as had been widely expected. Lionel Hollins has emerged as a candidate for the Los Angeles Lakers' coaching job, league sources told Yahoo Sports. Lakers management plans to interview Hollins later this week, league sources said. After meeting with two candidates with Lakers ties – Mike Dunleavy and Byron Scott – Hollins is an intriguing inclusion in the process. He's the first candidate who doesn't have a history with the organization, but, of the three, he has the most recent track record of success in the league. Yahoo! Sports

Dunleavy, who has a 613-716 record in 17 seasons as coach of the Lakers, Bucks, Trail Blazers and Clippers, appeared on ESPN Radio's "The Herd with Colin Cowherd" Thursday and was asked if he thinks he has a shot at the Knicks' job. "I hope so," he said. "I played in the triangle system down in Houston. It was kind of left over from when Tex Winter coached there. All my teams, I've run it as a transition set. The part of that was also the fact that I was thinking at some point in the playoffs, we'll run into Phil's teams, and by the time we get there, my guys will run the triangle very well and be prepared to play them. "Maybe I'm the outside guy from the other guys that he'll talk to, former players who played in the system and other guys who coached under him in the system. But at least I do know the system. I have run it." Newsday

Consider former Lakers and Clippers coach Mike Dunleavy Sr. as one of those possibilities. “If I had an opportunity to interview with them I would definitely be interested,” said Dunleavy on his SiriusXM NBA Radio show on Thursday. “I had a great run there when I coached in the ’90s.” Los Angeles Daily News

“It’s one of the premier jobs, if not the premier job in the league,” said Dunleavy. “They’ve got Kobe Bryant still on their team and he’ll be back next year healthy and I think he can play at a very high level. They’ve got cap space to use this summer to work on the team.” Los Angeles Daily News

Dunleavy revealed he had also interviewed with the Lakers when they looked to replace Mike Brown following a 1-4 start in the 2012-13 season. The Lakers also talked to Phil Jackson and Mike D’Antoni, who was chosen before resigning on Wednesday amid two frustrating seasons filled with injuries and mixed support surrounding his fast-paced, perimeter-oriented system.
