Paul George underwent successful surgery after seriously injuring his right leg during a Team USA scrimmage Friday. George ran down the floor in pursuit of James Harden, but collided with the base behind the basked and suffered an open tibia-fibula fracture when he landed. While he’s been recovering in the hospital, USA coach Mike Krzyzewski visited him, which made for a very sweet and emotional photo. For The Win

Besides being surrounded by his entire family — which includes two older sisters — USA men's basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski made a return visit, as did Pacers general manager Kevin Pritchard who walked out of the hospital with a group that included George's agent as well as a Nike representative. "He was overwhelmed with everybody reaching out to him. I think that takes away some of the pain when you know that people care for you," George, Sr. said. "Larry Bird's been calling … Larry's been calling left and right, (asking,) 'How is he? Do I need to come out there?' " Indianapolis Star

Coach Mike Krzyzewski: "Damian's one of the up-and-coming young guards. He had a great year. He can play both positions, which is what we're going to require all our guards to do. There's going to be a lot of competition at the guard spot. All those guys are good. And that'll be the toughest call." Oregonian

In an interview with John Feinstein on CBS Sports radio, Duke and Team USA coach Mike Krzyzewski broke down what he would do in the Cleveland Cavaliers' position of trying to decide whether to trade Andrew Wiggins for Kevin Love. The verdict? He'd trade for Love. Click here to listen to the audio. "There's absolutely not one second of hesitancy. I'd trade for Kevin Love," Coach K said. "That's not saying anything bad about any of the other youngsters. Love's an All-Star and he's a double-double guy. But he's a double-double guy who can spread the court. There aren't many double-double guys who can spread the floor; he can go inside and outside. There may be a low post player that gets you a double double, but Love, you can do a lot of different things with him." CBSSports.com

With the FIBA World Cup in Spain six weeks away, Team USA announced its training camp roster on Monday. There is a gold standard again for the group that's headed by national team managing director Jerry Colangelo and coach Mike Krzyzewski, who led Team USA to gold medals in the 2008 Olympics, 2010 FIBA World Cup and the 2012 Olympics as well. This list of 19 will meet in Las Vegas for training camp from July 28 to August 1, then be whittled down to 12 for the final roster that will head to Spain. If Team USA wins gold at the World Cup, they'll receive an automatic qualification to the 2016 Olympics and won't have to take part in the 2015 World Cup. USA Today Sports

If you were Mitch or Jim or the person responsible for hiring the next head coach of the Lakers, who would that be? James Worthy: "It’s funny, with so many players coming out of high school and one year of college, you're starting to see teams wanting college coaches and stuff like that, but right off the top of my head: I played with Byron Scott, so I know what he brings to the table. I know that he holds people accountable and he’s a defensive kind of genius when it comes to that. I like Nate McMillan. Nate McMillan spent some time with Coach K [Mike Krzyzewski] in USA/international basketball. I think he knows all the players that were on the team. He has a good rapport. But, I got to go with my good friend Byron Scott, if it was up to me." ESPN.com

The bad news: Rose is making the sort of progress that should allow him to proceed with plans to try to make the Team USA roster for the World Cup of Basketball in Spain, a pursuit that will consume more than a month of the summer from mid-August to mid-September. The Bulls can't say so -- especially with Thibodeau serving as a Team USA assistant to Mike Krzyzewski -- but they'd surely prefer that Rose hold off on his full-speed return until training camp next fall.
