With the NBA trade deadline looming on Thursday at 3 p.m., third-year Orlando Magic swingman Maurice Harkless said Wednesday that he's not focusing on the possibility of being dealt. "I'm not thinking about it," Harkless said. "I'm here, so I'm focused on practicing today. We've got a game Friday, so I'm focused on getting ready for that." Harkless indeed is a candidate to be traded before Thursday's deadline. Orlando Sentinel

Magic officials still like Harkless and believe he has potential. Still, a rumor that circulated several weeks ago that the Magic were asking for a first-round pick in potential trades for Harkless was inaccurate. Orlando Sentinel

The Magic will look to move little side pieces like Andrew Nicholson and Maurice Harkless, though it wouldn’t be a shocker if a front office that might be in some danger searches for something juicier. The takeaway is that Moe Harkless is viewed very differently by Rob Hennigan and Jacque Vaughn. Twitter @AlexKennedyNBA

The 21-year-old Orlando Magic swingman originally was set to train with Puerto Rico’s team and represent the commonwealth during the upcoming FIBA World Cup in Spain. But Harkless has decided to concentrate instead on preparing for the 2014-15 season, his third year in the NBA. “He wants to focus on the Magic and getting ready for his most important season to date,” Happy Walters, Harkless’ agent, told the Orlando Sentinel. Puerto Rico have already drawn up preliminary squad lists for the Centrobasket and FIBA Basketball World Cup but are not expected to make them public until next week. "I am one who would rather not comment until I have everything ironed out," said basketball federation president Carlos Beltran.
